Not too overwhelming for small children but maybe a little underwhelming for teenagers hoping for VR Experiences available at some of the Parkdean sites. The Big Sheep and The Milkway Adventure Park are close at hand which may be more their scene. An entertainment hub pass can be purchased from Parkdean Reception should you wish to use the pools or watch the entertainment.
We were so pleasantly surprised just how gorgeous Natalie’s place was, it was so comfortable, incredibly well stocked with lots of beautiful thoughtful touches. The interior wood not only made it warm & cosy, but also made it feel so homely, beautifully decorated. My son slept on the sofa bed, which was one of the best designs sofa beds I’ve seen & very comfy. I’d definitely recommend Natalie’s place
18 Bucklands is a privately owned chalet at the Parkdean Bideford Bay Holiday Park.
Location of Parkdean Bideford Bay Holiday Park
Bideford Bay Holiday Park is approximately 8 miles west of Bideford. There is a bus from Barnstaple to Bideford Bay Holiday Park, but the site is remote and a car is advised (probably essential!). Bideford Bay is a UNESCO Area of Natural Beauty with unspoilt countryside, moorland, and beaches, giving plenty of opportunity to walk stunning (if hilly(!)) cliff paths, and cycle the Tarka Trail. For something less wild; Westward Ho! is an easy family-friendly beach with amenities close at hand. Bideford is a well-equipped town and nearby Barnstaple is slightly larger. Appledore, Clovelly, Bude, Woolacombe and Croyde are within easy reach. There are also tourist attractions like The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, and Darlington Crystal.
The Parkdean Bideford Bay Site
The chalet is situated in an area of the holiday park called 'Bucklands'. It is at the top of a hill next to a drive that leads down to what was once a manor house but is now the center of the entertainment complex. Most of the facilities are open Easter to November.
There are swimming pools and entertainment which require an entertainment pass which can be purchased from Reception. In 2024 the passes are £10 off-peak and £18.50 peak. They are valid for a week and are charged per person.
The other facilities, restaurant, playground, crazy golf, arcade, launderette, and shop are free to use.
Bucklands is peaceful, with owls, pheasants, frogs and other wildlife. The grass can be a little boggy in damper times so it is best to use the concrete paths. 18 Bucklands is at the end of a row of three chalets 20, 19 and 18. There is a small patio area to the end of the chalet. The immediate view from the chalet is the row of chalets in front, although at areas around the site you get a view of the bay below. There is easy access onto the cliff path either to Clovelly or Buck Mills beach.
The site is hilly, so a level of fitness is required.
Bideford Bay Holiday Park is on the A39 and is serviced by the Stagecoach bus route 319. Running Monday to Saturday between Barnstaple and Hartland. There are 6 buses a day.
It is possible to walk the cliff path to Clovelly or Bucks Mills although it can be quite hard going in places, and is not suitable for all fitness levels.
