Carloway is close to Callanish Standing Stones, Garenin blackhouse village, Dalmore beach. You’ll love the location, free wifi, and peaceful environment. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and one well-behaved pet (additional £20 service fee per stay). We are usually at home when our guests are here, so we can offer extensive local knowledge about our history, culture, where to visit, eat, etc. Read our excellent reviews over the last six years. Our guests have commented that our place is spacious, and well equipped.

The photos don't do justice to the apartment, it is very spacious and extremely comfortable. It was warm and cosy and had everything you could need. Very well equipped, lovely new shower and gorgeous towels. The community centre shop and cafe were very closeby where delicious lunches are available. Also within easy reach were the beautiful Dalmore and Dalbeg beaches and the Callanish Stones. Jim and Fiona were very friendly and helpful and on reading the guest book, it was clear that many people had enjoyed their stay just as much as we did. Thank you!
This is a lovely spacious apartment, built onto the hosts’ house but totally independent of it and with its own private entrance. It’s well situated for local sites lime the standing stones of Callanish (try looking from the undeveloped Callanish II and Callanish III sites) and Carloway Broch, and a short walk from an old blackhouse village just above a pleasant rocky bay. Jim and Fiona are delightful hosts who strike a perfect balance between being available to help and giving their guests privacy. If you are staying on a Friday night and like running ask Jim to introduce you to the Stornoway Parkrun crowd who are friendly and welcoming. And if you like walking try the coastal path to Dalmore Beach. Overall a great place to stay whether you are working or on holiday.
Jim and Fiona are perfect hosts. We felt very comfortable in their place. If you are looking for a conveniently placed base to explore the Island this is the place for you. The apartment is very spacious and clean. The views are beautiful wherever you look. We will definitely be back to the island and Jim’s and Fiona’s place if they have us. Thank you so much! This is a rural location. Whilst there are other houses nearby, facilities such as supermarkets, banks, etc are located in Stornoway which is a half hour drive away. There is now a well-stocked community shop in the village which is open six days (not Sunday) 9am to 7pm.
Most guests have their own car, which is necessary to do a lot of touring, visiting, etc. A few have chosen to have a quiet time and use public transport. There are buses every hour or so to/from Stornoway. Guests are welcome to borrow (free) a mountain bike. There are good coastal and hill walks locally (and a nearby beach!)

I'm retired and active with family, friends, travelling and running. My wife, also retired, is similarly active, especially with growing vegetables in her Polycrub. We have welcomed friends and family to our Lewis home for years, and like to share our detailed knowledge of the island and its way of life.
