Three Hares Barn is a converted former barn next to our farmhouse on the eastern side of Dartmoor. It’s located just a 10 minute drive from the charming small town of Chagford, filled with pubs, cafes and small shops. The barn is sat on our small-holding farm, brimming with angora goats, sheep and sights of the moor as far as the eye can see. The property has its own garden area with patio furniture, and guests are welcome to wander in the orchard and fields which enjoy lovely views of Dartmoor. A spacious, light and warm barn conversion in the heart of Dartmoor. External stairs lead to the front door, which opens into a large kitchen/dining area with electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and small wood burner. Steps lead up to the sitting room, which is open plan to the kitchen/dining room but separated by the balustrade. This has large sofas, an Ultra-Wide HD Smart TV with Netflix, DVD player, masses of books, games and DVDs. The barn has stairs down to 2 bedrooms - one with a king size bed, the other with a super king which can be made into 2 single beds if required. Both bedrooms are en suite, one having a large bath with overhead shower, the other having a bath with hand-held shower attachment. The property has Wi-fi and 4G mobile phone reception. Central heating is oil-fired. Water is from a private water supply, and is regularly tested. There is a washer/dryer and ironing equipment in an adjacent utility room. The property has its own garden area with patio furniture, and guests are welcome to wander in the orchard and fields (when not occupied by animals), which enjoy lovely views of Dartmoor. There are various dining areas around the property which you are welcome to use. There is parking for 2 large cars. As we have a thatched farmhouse and this is a working farm on which we keep Angora goats, Ryeland sheep and a couple of pigs there are a few rules for all our safety and well-being - no pets (including dogs), no smoking, no feeding of the animals except in our presence. Because of the external and internal steps the barn is unsuitable for children under 5, or those for whom mobility is an issue. No parties.

The Three Hare Barns is set in a perfect location for exploring Dartmoor. The hosts Susan and Peter warmly welcomed us on arrival and came to check we had everything we needed, having left us delicious home made biscuits and helpful groceries to get started. Susan provided lots of helpful recos and info about places to visit. We packed in a lot over the Easter weekend. We loved joining Susan to feed the goats and sheep - they are very generous hosts. The house was really lovely, well-equipped, spotless, cosy and comfortable with gorgeous and cute views of the farm animals. We slept so well as it was incredibly quiet. We will definitely return and would definitely recommend!
Wir haben uns vom ersten Moment an sehr wohlgefühlt! Susan hat uns sehr herzlich empfangen und uns direkt nach der Ankunft alles gezeigt, insbesondere auch die vielen Tiere. Das Ferienhaus und das Anwesen werden mit Herzblut geführt. Auch der Garten, der mit genutzt werden darf, ist wunderschön. Alles in allem der perfekte Ort, um die Seele baumeln zu lassen und zu entschleunigen. Das Ferienhaus bietet außerdem einen sehr guten Ausgangspunkt, um den Dartmoor Nationalpark zu erkunden. Auch hier haben wir sehr wertvolle Tipps und Empfehlungen von Susan und Peter bekommen. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

We are a short drive from the charming town of Chagford, brimming with sweet cafes, cosy pubs and independant shops.
On our small-holding there's the opportunity for farm tours, feeding the animals, weaving and spinning demonstrations and lessons! In additions to many country walks directly from the property.
Nearby activities, depending on the time of year, Covid and age of participants: Castle Drogo, horse riding, cycling, walking, golf, Dartmoor Zoo, Crealy Adventure Park, RHS Rosemoor, a cookery school, the river dart country park (go ape climbing course and various outdoor activities), archery, clay pigeon shooting, art galleries, and fine dining restaurants.
Three Hares Barn is a converted former barn next to our farmhouse on the eastern side of Dartmoor. It’s located just a 10 minute drive from the small town of Chagford and is very accessible being 10 minutes in the other direction from the A30 Whiddon Down exit.
Please note that as we are on Dartmoor the surrounding roads (although quiet) are single track, so some reversing can be necessary!
The nearest shop is 3 miles away, as are pubs, cafes and dining places. Supermarkets and a wider range if shops are a 20 minute drive away in Okehampton.
Lots of great walks in the area, both gentle and up on the high moor. Most good walks require a short drive. Driving will be a necessity for your stay as there is close to no public transport.
