Sara’s family farmhouse is loaded with character and history. But as she notes, it is “old and finicky”. It should also be noted that any guests who have even slightly limited mobility may have a helluva time getting up the front steps into the house. Hugely high steps ! We were there during chilly mid September weather and were surprised to discover there is no heating system in the house -except for a wood stove in the family room. Also it’s a major trek to a sizable grocery store so definitely bring groceries with you upon arrival. If you’re visiting in summer, I’m sure it will be delightful. The family room is large and sun-filled and the back deck overlooking the pond is wonderful. And I’m sure having a swim in the pond in warm weather would be lovely. It’s a very peaceful and quiet property.

This property is in a truly beautiful location with the salt water pound frontage and large deck. Just down the road the access to Holbrook Sanctuary could not be easier. You can hear the falls when the tide drops low enough for the lake to create them and enjoy watching the flow of the lake change direction from the deck. The property is quite rustic in parts while some parts, like the main bedroom upstairs have newer appointments. There are plenty of comfy sofas and a large enough table for dining a half dozen or so. There are two tvs, older tube sets with VCR and DVD players but we did not use them so can't say how well they work. The Wifi can be iffy but we found the best results can be had by turning the router off and back on again. It is ADSL so pretty good for streaming video but not so good for uploading anything of size like high resolution photos. As others have noted, the entry to the kitchen is a steep step so take care there and the bathroom is on the second floor. While the kitchen was useable, I would not say you should expect to prepare anything complicated and would advise you bring your own cookware if you plan to cook indoors a lot. All in all a great location with plenty of room for a big family and a great nature preserve to explore.

The setting for this home is amazing. Gorgeous views, and close proximity to both wooded trails and beachcombing. The house is old but hospitable, just as you would expect for Maine. Be forewarned that it may not be the best bet for those with age or fitness limitations. My mom had difficulty with the large step to get in the house initially (we quickly found a workaround using door off the deck) and the challenges of an upstairs bath. We had a wonderful time there tho and Sara is amazing. Go and enjoy your stay!

Wonderful stay! Sara is extremely helpful and responsive. We very much enjoyed the view from the back deck, comfortable beds, and remote location. If you enjoy no frills old country homes, don’t hesitate.
