Some of the negative reviews--working off of memory as I write this--seemed unfair to us, particularly those regarding cleanliness, comfort, and communication. All were great. Absolutely everything was clean--dishes, floors, the shower, countertops...all of it. Some folks complained about uncomfortable beds, but I'm guessing they'd never slept on a futon before. We conked right out, and my wife was reminded of how much she enjoys the form-fitting comfort of a futon. As for gripes about communication, they are way off-base; the wi-fi listed in the welcome note wasn't to be found, and when I inquired I received a fast response (still, the issue should be resolved). I've rated Dwayne's listing at a 4 for three reasons: there was no coffee provided, the quality of the towels and linens wasn't what we've come to expect, and the cleaning fee was utterly outrageous--we took the place anyway, but it was difficult to swallow. So most of the major stuff is great, but cost and value were not.

The person I communicated with before I rented was helpful. The instructions messaged through Airbnb were okay, but not entirely clear about check-out (other than time) Nav landed us at the house. The yard and surrounds were nice and well kept. The neighborhood is peaceful and serene. Once inside we did not find any instruction book for the rental. For the most part the place was as described. Open, clean, simple. The place is ~40min from acadia main park. A few small complaints: There was old coffee grinds left in the coffee maker. There were dead bugs on the ceiling and walls of the bathroom. The upstairs bed was not comfortable and the "fitted" sheet did not fit on the bed. We called the # sent to us and left a VM, no one picked up or called back. We messaged in Airbnb and no one responded. This experience was okay compaired to my other rentals. If those complaints were addressed I would have rated the whole experience higher.

Our stay at the Cattail Cottage was awesome. We were maybe 25 minutes from the main entrance to Acadia National Park, but there is a lot of Acadia much closer which we did not get to explore. We certainly plan on returning again soon ... :-) The Cottage is beautiful and was perfect for my wife and I. We ate breakfast and dinner most days at the Cottage as there is a grocery close by and the kitchen had everything that we needed to prepare our meals at home and for our hikes. And the kitchen sink is amazing. My wife's only complaint is that the bathroom is set up for tall people, which I appreciate, but she could not see herself in the bathroom mirror ... :-o All in all, the Cattail Cottage is a wonderful place to stay.

A very relaxing cabin in the woods. It’s located right near the Bass Harbor lighthouse and not far from the park. The hosts were very responsive to any questions we had.
