Escape to a peaceful retreat. ‘The Shippen’ is our cosy barn conversion which was once part of a small working dairy farm. A blend of rustic charm and modern comfort provides the perfect space for relaxation. High beamed ceilings give a spacious feel and the double sided log burner makes it cosy. We provide you with a comfortable ‘home from home’, and many guests return to stay again. Sit back, light the fire, put on a vinyl record or DVD and take it easy. The Shippen is a single-story converted barn, with 2 steps to access the front door. There are 2 bedrooms (one kingsize bed, one double), a bathroom (with bath and over shower), full kitchen/dining room and living room. The property has gas central heating, and the living room and kitchen share a double sided log burner for cosier heat. The high ceilings throughout give a feeling of spaciousness. There is outside space, with a small enclosed patio that has a sunny aspect for your morning coffee. The property comes with 2 allocated off-street parking bays. 2 cars maximum, on street parking next to property if required.

Lovely stay, felt right at home. Paul was a great host also, would definitely come back again.
Paul was very helpful. This was our second stay and we again got a very generous welcome pack of goodies Paul was even able to conjour up a new duvet for us as we where worried the (very loverly) feather one provided might set off our allergies. That really is going above and beyond.

We had a lovely weekend stay at the Shippen cottage. The cottage was exactly as described, with the sitting room and kitchen having a lovely log burner for a cold evening in. Lovely touches when we arrived like milk and butter etc. We used it as a base to visit the beautiful coastline, which is just a short drive away. Would definitely stay again if in the area.
What a lovely gem of a place! The decor is gorgeous- high spec but the feel is really comfortable and homely. The hosts left a lovely welcome pack inc milk n treats and the place was well stocked - no need to go n buy oil, condiments etc we loved the logfire - our highlight. Location was not as rural for outlook but it still had a lovely outside space for warmer days. It’s so near the statues in the sea we wanted to visit. Parking brilliant and hosts quick to answer questions above and beyond. I can’t fault it I absolutely loved it and would book again if it’s available.

Our property is situated in Thornton, between vibrant Crosby to the south-west and scenic Lunt to the north.
Thornton is a quiet and residential area with historic roots. Known at the time as 'Torentun', Thornton was recorded in the Doomsday book in 1086. And one minute walk away from the property, just opposite the Nag's Head, there are a set of stocks and a local sundial, both of which can be dated back to the 1700s and are Grade II listed monuments.
Crosby Beach, the site of Anthony Gormley's Another Place Iron Men Statues, is only a 10 minute drive away. Crosby is well served by local businesses. With numerous restaurants, cafes, salons, pubs and shops. There are 2 pubs serving food, a Tesco Express and Aldi within short walks.
Aintree Racecourse, West Lancashire Golf Club, Waterloo Rugby Club, Marine Football Club are all within a short drive.
In general, a car is recommended for getting around.
The closest bus stop is on Water Street, a 2 minute walk away from the property. This stop is serviced by the 54/54A buses which take you right into Crosby and onward to Liverpool City centre. There are more bus services in the area.
The closest Merseyrail station is a 10 minutes by car and has ample free parking spaces. The Merseyrail Network connects the whole of Merseyside including Chester.
Delta taxis, Alpha taxis and Uber are all active in the area.
