Hawthorn Retreat is an idyllic shepherd’s hut perched on the banks of the Petteril river in Blencowe. With a double bed and an en-suite shower room, this retreat offers the chance for a secluded river get-away without sacrificing on comfort. This secluded spot comes with a fully-equipped kitchen and solar power but no wi-fi to let you disconnect and enjoy the spectacular scenery. With your own private terrace, firepit and barbeque you are sure to being immersed in the wilderness. This get away from it all star gazing retreat has a five foot king-size bed, a country painted kitchen with a SMEG LPG gas double hob and caravan oven, a refrigerator and sink. The en-suite shower room has a heated chrome towel rail, a water flushing WC and basin and the hut is lit with solar power incorporating back up batteries for night time lighting and heating. The Hawthorn Retreat has a well equipped kitchen for two including champagne glasses for an arrival toast, lovely locally sourced guest amenities and kitchen supplies. All you need to bring for a relaxing break away in this glamping retreat is yourselves.

Would recommend it to anyone! Christine was friendly and quick to respond host. Lovely place and a perfect location with the fields and nearby river. Great location to visit different places in the Lake District. If you get a chance, try and stay here!
Had a really wonderful stay, it has everything you could need for a relaxing break- and the breakfast hamper was wonderful!
We stayed here for three nights and absolutely loved it! The instructions to find the hut were spot on and the drive to Penrith only took 10 minutes! The river is so peaceful and there is so much room in the hut we never felt there wasn’t enough space! Perfect stay thank you Christine and family xxx
We stayed at Hawthorn Retreat for 4 nights and we really enjoyed our stay. Christine is a great host, always responsive, provided clear instructions about check in and about things to do around the property. Place itself is a catch. Surrounded in the woods, at the bank of the river and huge estate. We would definitely stay here again.
This place was absolutely perfect! Such beautiful surroundings, even better than the pictures show. There's a lovely little river just at the bottom of the bank where the hut is, so nice to wake up to the sounds of running water. It's super cosy and warm, great shower, comfortable bed and nice little kitchen. We will definitely stay again.

Hawthorn Retreat Shepherds Hut is just over a mile from Greystoke Village which can be reached by footpath from the hamlet of Blencowe. Set in the Eden Valley in Cumbria which is considered one of the most beautiful and rural areas in England, Blencowe is situated on the edge of the Lake District about four miles from the Lake District National Park.
With excellent nearby walking routes, cycling paths and other outdoor activities; you can do as much or as little as you like - a break at Hawthorn Retreat combines exploring the great outdoors with rest and relaxation.

I was born in Cazenovia New York (way upstate) and have lived and worked in Hong Kong and England. We have two children and our family is now based in London, Cumbria & the Lake District and Chicago. Our favourite activities are hiking, spending time outside, cross fit training with our friend Marcelo and spending time with friends and family.
