Grade II listed building. This attractive Grade II listed, Georgian fisherman’s cottage, nestles in the heart of the old village of Staithes and has fine sea views from the upper floor. Carefully renovated, the holiday accommodation is cosy and welcoming with a wood burner in the living room and retaining many original features including exposed beams, polished wooden floors and chunky pine doors. This popular little village complete with museum, shops and restaurants lies on the spectacular heritage coastline with the Cleveland Way running along the cliff tops. A parking permit is provided for the village car park when visiting. Whitby only 11 miles away is accessed via Sandsend with its stretch of golden beach. Within 13 yards of the front door there is a public area with benches for sitting and also a bench directly behind the house with a fine view of the hillside. Both receive full sun in the morning and the front area is also used as a drying place and a drying frame is provided for this purpose Shop 250 yards, pub and restaurant 100 yards. We had a lovely stay in Staithes, very peaceful with plenty to do with children.
The break was everything I hoped it would be: away from it all, restful, in a beautiful and characterful area. The cottage is superbly located a few steps from the harbour, is sympathetically maintained to be comfortable while retaining its own history and character, and supplied with everything we needed. Host and caretaker were both lovely in phone chats. So glad I chose this place.
A perfect position set back from the High St, but very close to the quay and beach. Staithes was a beautiful village with lots to do (beach, museum, galleries, cliff top walks, river with stepping stones and great pubs). The kids were very happy running around the alleyways and playing on the beach. The house was charming and got better the higher up you went. The top floor twin bedroom was huge with a sitting area overlooking the sea. The cottage had everything you needed but still retained an old world charm. Walking around the village in the evening is a must, it's very atmospheric with all the carriage lights and smell of coal burning. The owner was very helpful and gave us a detailed chat on the phone regarding parking, places to eat and heating/wood burning stove advice. It was a fantastic family holiday destination. And we're all a lot fitter too!
Fantastic place to stay, right next the harbour in a quite little square just next door Main Street, pubs and restaurants. Great host, everything was exactly as expected. Clean, warm and comfortable. Can’t recommend it enough.
This is a historic home in a beautiful village on the Yorkshire host. Parking and loading/unloading are a challenge, but this cannot be helped. The home is clean and has adequate amenities. Some of the extras have been removed due to COVID restrictions-but it is still a very homely and comfortable place. Wifi is great, no signal for phone calls in most parts of the village. The host phoned me personally to give me all the details I needed to make sure our stay was without problems. Also there was a local person who was available to answer questions around parking, etc. They are very conscientious around COVID and made sure all the safety precautions were followed. It is a wonderful place and good value for money in a stunningly beautiful setting.
