Escape to the peaceful banks of Bayou Barataria, overlooking Lake Salvador and the Intracoastal Waterway. Enjoy the best view in Lafitte just 30 mins from NOLA! Relax in our 3+ ac private sanctuary with 300 yr old oaks that were once part of a plantation. Relax on the swing bed, take a outdoor shower, walk the nature trails, fish on your own or with the best charters, take a swamp tour, eat exquisite meals in NOLA...return to cocktails on the dock to watch sunset, bald eagles, and egrets. The spacious 2br/2 ba guest house is on the 2nd and 3rd levels of the home with a large patio and outdoor kitchen on the base floor. The new home tastefully incorporates salvaged materials and many antiques. The large screened in porch has tea lighting for calming nights on the queen size bed swing listening to the sound of cicadas. The office is perfectly set up for remote working with extra monitors. Alligators can be seen from the dock but cannot access property because of a levee wall that bounds the property. If you have children please see our adjacent listing "New Orleans Bayou Retreat" that is perfectly set up for families.
Really great home to stay in! Sadly my 1.5 yo niece got a double ear infection prior to the trip and couldn’t make it, but WOW there were so many indoor and outdoor toys for her! We really loved the property, especially the dock. There are some mosquitos but that’s typical around a body of water at night — it was comparable to what we’re used to in MI so they didn’t bother us. The beds were very comfortable, especially the pillows! Really great location, we loved that we were out of the city with an easy drive back and forth. We did the airboat next door and had a great time, too! Would definitely recommend.
Sarah’s place was a beautiful slice of heaven tucked away on a private 3-ish acres but close to everything we needed/wanted! Everything at the house was perfect. The kitchen was very well stocked and the quality ware and the gas range cooked beautifully. The master suite was spacious and comfortable. The water pressure was dreamy. Sarah communicated ahead of arrival to let us know the house was cleaned and ready prior to checking time so we could come early if we were already in town. She also answered our call for help when trying to decide on a redfish charter company. She recommended Ripp’s Inland Charters and we couldn’t have been happier, definitely give them a call if you’re looking to catch your limit of redfish!! Thank you Sarah, we will certainly be back!
Sarah’s place was perfect! She was a great host and very helpful. The place was great, clean, convenient and was exactly as advertised. We will be back for sure!
My family visited for a death in the family. We wanted somewhere to escape the stress of the visit. This place was beautiful, quiet, and perfect for the family. The host was extremely helpful about making sure we had everything we needed.
Sarah and her family are wonderful hosts. Sarah‘s communication and being upfront about hurricane Ida recovery was excellent. The Airbnb was well equipped and very clean. What you see in the pictures is accurate. Hurricane Ida really rocked this town. I hope Sarah and her family will be able to remove all the floatons and get the dock up and running again. The property views are stunning. You are staying in the guest house next-door to their private residence. On the other side there is an airboat tour that runs pretty much all day. Bring earplugs if noise bothers you! (And the pontoon cruise is worth it. You just sign up online and walk next door. ) If you would like some downtime and fishing nearby, then is the spot! Venice is about 2 hours away. In-shore fishing in LAFITTE scored us black drum. Hurricane Ida recovery in Lafitte is ongoing. Boutte’s Barge (with limited menu)Dollar General, and Piggly Wiggly are open along with Higgins seafood. Everything else is 15 minutes away in Marerro
This location in Lafitte is unique because it is private yet very walkable. The grocery store is within walking distance. You can also access a set of community walking trails and boardwalks through the swamps or walk on the less popular back levee system that overlooks some gorgeous swamps. If you want an airboat tour there is one just down the street. More boardwalk trails are located 10 mins away in gorgeous Jean Lafitte National Park. Lafitte is known for some of the best fishing in the world. You can fish for catfish off of our dock.
It is recommended that you have a vehicle to get to this site but it is possible to uber and then walk around Lafitte from the guest house.

Hey! I love the outdoors which includes cycling, skiing, snowboarding and traveling back and forth to Louisiana where I lived for over 20 years until Hurricane Ida took me back to my roots of Colorado. In Louisiana, I love my backyard (fishing or duck hunting in Louisiana wetlands), dining in New Orleans…I love working hard and playing harder whether it is being thigh deep in mud working to restore Louisiana wetlands, catching one of New Orleans' amazing music festivals, or enjoying the pow at Wolf Creek Ski Resort. Some of my favorite destinations have been Argentina, Cuba, Croatia, Iceland, Spain, Turkey, and my stomping grounds of Colorado and New Mexico where I grew up. I prefer to stay in less touristy areas and explore local spots. I love having some quality time with my man, family trips with my young daughter and adult stepsons, and am always down for a getaway with my girlfriends. I can live without pretty much everything....but hot sauce;-) My husband "Big John" is a Louisiana native who grew up shrimping and fishing in the Lafitte area with his dad. He's famous for his jambalaya and has worked in the maritime industry for 20+ years.
