I'll start with the good. The location is nice, the home feels very private and has an expansive yard. There is a newer sunroom we enjoyed sitting in. The home is an older farm house and it's a good deal for the area, so we didn't expect it to be fancy. However, it had never been professionally cleaned as there are apparently not cleaners in the area, and it showed. I spent hours scrubbing the floors and bathroom. It's in dire need of some basic maintenance. Also the water has iron in it and is not drinkable, and we were not told about this until checkin. Our kid wouldn't bathe in it and we had to hold our breath in the shower because it smelled like sulphur. There are a lot of bugs, particularly roaches in the bathroom. And due to the rainy weather, black mold began to appear all over the home, our personal items, and our child developed a cough. Not great! The host was incredibly defensive and generally unhelpful. It was, frankly, a tough experience and we vacated early.

The house is convenient to many of our favorite spots in Brooksville, Bucks Harbor, and Blue Hill. It has a truly beautiful yard and garden and is nicely hidden from the main road by tall trees. Our favorite room was the Sun room that looks out on the backyard. Such a beautiful place to have breakfast each morning and even dinner in the evenings.

We had a wonderful time at Heidi’s cottage. The location was perfect for us, close to friends in Castine as well as the lovely Deer Isle. We took full advantage of nearby Tinder Hearth as well as The Bagaduce Lunch for dinners out. It was the perfect spot for our rustic little end-of-the-summer adventure in Maine!

Great quaint New England home. Hollyhock was perfectly located to get to surrounding towns and area attractions. Heidi was a pleasure to communicate with and had great tips for the area. We loved out time hiking at nearby Holbrook Preserve, the ferry ride and hike and Isle au Haute, and swimming at Walkers Pond. Hollhock's backyard was great for the kids to run around and the family to roast s'mores by the fire pit. House was a great size for our family of five and there were ample cards and board games for a rainy day.

Cozy, quirky, and relaxing — reminded me of a cottage we have in our family. Very peaceful, private place to stay, and Heidi has great recommendations for food and activities nearby. I’d recommend Bagaduce Lunch — your food will take about an hour, even when it doesn’t seem busy, so order your ice cream first and eat while waiting for the food (trust me!). Also visit Tender Hearth for pizza dinner — the setting is absolutely picturesque, but you need to call on Tuesday morning before noon to place your dinner order for any night (they sell out by Tuesday afternoon for the whole week).
