I stayed at Peter's place with my partner and our puppy and had a great time. The yurt isn't huge, but it is sufficiently outfitted with basic amenities, and the grill/hot tub are fantastic extras. Location-wise, it's super quiet, but sufficiently close to nearby hikes and towns (~20 minute drive). Highly recommend for anyone looking for a private retreat with option to pop into town.
The yurt is beautifully appointed and is such a peaceful place; I was in dire need of a weekend to rest and Peter and Toby’s place delivered beyond what I had hoped for.
Incredible stay!! I surprised my boyfriend with a trip to Maine for his birthday this year, and the Summer Rose could not have been a more perfect getaway! It was such a peaceful property, our dog loved going on walks along the trails with us. The Appleton Retreat offers everything you need for a staycation, but we also really enjoyed traveling to many different nearby cities and towns! We both agreed that we will have to come back and stay here again some day. Nothing but love for Maine and The Appleton Retreat! Thanks!

My wife Toby and I are retired. We relocated to Portland to be closer to our kids and live in a cool diversified City. Prior to "settling down", we sailed our boat WHIZZBANG to New Zealand and while there enjoyed a road trip staying with some great Airbnb hosts which ignited our interest in giving it a try ourselves. We were fortunate to luck into adopting an incredibly beautiful historic building at 141 Spring Street on the westside of Portland and became immersed in a challenging but rewarding renovation project. However it was not long after that we were itching for another project so, call it crazy, we divined a log cabin, requiring much tender love and care on 120 acres of pristine Maine land in a far away town called Appleton. The Portland Studio is a home away from home and offered to Airbnb guests. We hope fellow travellers will enjoy discovering Portland and love staying in our romantic Studio on the West Side, or venture out to The Appleton Retreat for the perfect Getaway.
