This property in Windwardside features stunning views of the blue Caribbean, the misty top of spectacular Mt. Scenery, and the picturesque village below. On my 30th trip to Saba in 2019 I bought the 1858 vintage Althea Cottage. In 2021 I completed a second stone house for myself at the rear. In 2022 a second stone apartment, Peter Hytte, was built between the two other cottages... smaller, priceworthy and efficient. All net income is donated to my charities. I charge no cleaning fee. The apartment is 230 sq ft (22 sq m) and is outfitted with a private bath, queen Murphy bed, two comfy chairs, smart TV with wi-fi, dining table, computer desk, hanging closet, dresser, AC, ceiling fan, kitchenette with mini fridge, induction cooktop, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, and quality cookware, utensils, flatware and dishes. There is enough room to move around so that the bed may be left in its down position if desired. The location is ideal so that breezes keep the space fresh and cool. The fan is helpful and the AC is rarely needed except at times in summer. The adjacent patio is available for sunning or conversation. There is nowhere like Saba. Getting there is a unique and exhilarating experience especially if you arrive by plane. Staying there is like remembering life before the 21st century...simple, super clean, fun, and very friendly. Currency is the US$ and power the same 110v. The Saban version of English is spoken by everyone. The isle is politically a part of the Netherlands and about a third of the population is also fluent in Dutch. Spanish, German, French, and Tagalog are spoken to a lesser extent as well.

Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour. Le logement était super, bien placé. Jeffrey a été adorable, nous donnant des conseils et étant toujours réactif.
Het huisje was precies zoals in de omschrijving. Klein maar volledig ingericht, schoon en gezellig met prachtig uitzicht. Het ligt mooi en centraal. Op 2 minuten loopafstand heb je 2 supermarkten en de Bizzy B. Een bakker met terras waar je heerlijk kan ontbijten en lunchen. Wij haalden daar ook belegde broodjes die we meenamen voor onderweg. Er zijn ook meerdere restaurants op loopafstand van het huisje. Het contact met Jeffrey was goed. Hij regelde een taxi die ons ophaalde en weer wegbracht, reageerde snel op berichten, gaf ons tips en vertelde wat over het eiland. Ons verblijf op Saba was heerlijk. We waren er 2 dagen om te wandelen en hebben genoten van de mooie natuur. De wandelroutes beginnen bijna om de hoek en zijn prachtig. Omdat we niet heen en terug over dezelfde route wilden gaan zijn we beide dagen geëindigd in the Bottom bij Island flavours. Waar we een cocktail dronken en ze een taxi voor ons belden. Crazy Eric. Een ervaring op zich. We hebben genoten op Saba!
Jeff was a wonderful host. He greeted us when we arrived and showed around us the cottage. He arranged transportation for when we arrived by ferry and gave lots of great advice for when we were planning the trip. The cottage itself was perfect for two people. It was very clean, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Would definitely stay there again!

Everything is Windwardside is easily reached on foot: two grocery stores, six restaurants, five bars, and several shops. The Bottom is easily reached by taxi, rental car, or hitchhiking for more choices of the above.
If you're coming to dive, you've already booked that. Many varied hiking trails are available and guided tours by locals are highly recommended, in fact required for some trails. Bring some sturdy hiking shoes, don't rely on flip-flops!

I'm a retired family doc who loves learning languages and traveling throughout Europe. I also operated a large B&B in Phoenix, Arizona, for 10 years after my retirement from practicing medicine in 2001. I enjoy meeting hosts in smaller towns and learning about the local history and culture. I prefer smaller, basic accommodations that are comfortable and close to amenities such as restaurants. I often travel by car and if parking is not available at the home, I would appreciate help finding it nearby. I also host Althea Cottage and the adjacent Peter Hytte on Saba Island in the Dutch Caribbean where I live primarily. My former residence is now a winter/spring rental home at Lake Chapala, Mexico, where I return to spend my summers.
