The historic town of Lymington offers plenty for the visitor to the New Forest area. Situated on the west bank of the Lymington River, on the edge of the Solent, this colourful coastal town is an ancient seaport with a rich maritime history and is a major yachting centre with three marinas. The town began as an Anglo-Saxon village and is recorded in the Domesday Book as ‘Lentune’. From the Middle Ages and up to the 19th century, Lymington was well-known for its salt making and from the early 19th century a thriving ship building industry. Much of the architecture in Lymington is Georgian and Victorian. The High Street, where Baker’s Loft is situated, which looks predominantly Georgian, is in fact made up of an eclectic mix of Georgian, Victorian, Art Deco with some traces of Medieval architecture. The New Forest and its surrounding areas are a wonderful place to visit all year round, with a huge amount to do and see for people of all interests, from birdwatching to windsurfing, sailing, walking, cycling, horse riding, history, or just pottering and eating good food. Just a short drive away, the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and the historic shipyard at Bucklers Hard are always worth a visit. Being in the heart of Lymington, Baker’s Loft is surrounded by lots of restaurants and cafes (many of which are dog-friendly), shops and other facilities, including the Town Quay, the Coastal Path and the splendid Victorian open-air swimming pool. The historic Lymington Charter Market takes place every Saturday all along the High Street, as it has since it received its Charter in the mid 13th Century. Lymington is easy to access by car or train. The station is 450 metres distant. Just across the Lymington river is the ferry terminal providing frequent services to the Isle of Wight. A complete but sympathetic refurbishment and upgrading of the apartment was completed in June 2021. This work carefully retained many original features such as the large sash and case bay windows, the cast iron fireplace (no longer in use) and the original winding staircase to the upper floor, but including a new kitchen, bathroom, plumbing, electrical and heating installations,. The heating is controlled via an app. The large, well-equipped kitchen has all the appliances you would expect including hob, oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer. It is a hard water area so a water-softener is installed. The dining area which has a large table that can comfortably seat six people is separated from the kitchen by a breakfast bar or workspace with several USB charging points. The living room has comfortable seating and far-reaching views up and down the High Street and beyond. High speed Wi-Fi is provided. USB charging points are provided in the dining area, the living room and in the bedrooms. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the main floor of the duplex but not upstairs (bedroom level), and are not permitted on furniture. A safety gate is fitted at the top of the stairs to stop children from going down and dogs from going up! A Parking Clock giving free parking in car parks locally is provided. It permits parking for up to 20 hours, but please check as in some car parks the length of stay is more limited. Free on road parking is available 5-10 minutes walk from the apartment if you plan to leave your car for longer.
Noise issues. There was a band on Friday and Saturday nights at the restaurant next door below which was so loud - drums guitars singing all amplified- that the lounge room was unusable due to volume levels - unable to hear the TV. On Saturday morning the market stalls set up outside very early and very noisy. The staircase to bedrooms is very narrow, steep and dangerous. The blinds are all broken and you need to be over 6ft to manually roll them all up and down.
Excellent location and a lovely property. Hosts very helpful - would definitely stay again.
Nice clean place to stay but the only issue is the owner controls the heating and it can get very cold in the flat.
Stayed here 3 times now. Nice place to stay, has everything you need. Close to amenities. Great communication.
