Take the spiral staircase to the second level where you'll find the main queen bedroom with extraordinary views of passing boats in the St. John's harbour, the second bedroom with an extra queen bed and writing desk, and finally the four piece main bath with cast iron soaker-tub and stand-up shower. The basement is the laundry room with ample storage if required. Have your morning coffee and breakfast on the front patio while watching passing hikers and passing ships in the harbour. Ask any local in St. John's and they would agree, this property offers the authentic Newfoundland outport experience within the city.

A great stay. Place was clean and beds were comfy. Everything as expected and would definitely come again.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the demonic artwork spread throughout the home. We noticed it immediately and felt very uncomfortable. Specifically, the faceless women in a dark forest above our bed, the demonic faces by the door, bloody cow, boy holding a gun to a woman’s head..horror novels above the stairs. It was just an odd vibe that could really deter alot of people from feeling comfortable staying there. There was nothing laid out that talked about the history of the home which would have been nice or anything about the battery/Newfoundland. Some places leave baked goods for their guests or notes - nothing like that. No tea or sugar as described. No instruction manual for the appliances. Dishwasher doesn’t open. My son found a huge hunting knife in the living room. Thank goodness he showed it to us before playing with it! There is excavating happening next door. Wasn’t an issue for us but nice to know. Great DT location and cute home but would not stay again.
My husband, daughter, and I absolutely loved our stay in St.John's! We found the space cozy and exceptionally clean. The location is one of the best perks - located right on the harbour (with an awesome view), steps away from the sweetest cafe and a short walk to more restaurants and shops. We loved the cottage and we adored StJohns. We will be back! -Nicole

I loved my stay at the iconic battery home! The location is great and just steps from the Battery Cafe and with amazing harbour views. Super close to downtown and easy to get anywhere fast. The space was well laid out and filled with lovely and thoughtful art and decor. I used the wood stove a couple nights and it was extra cozy. Super recommend this space and will be back. The host was extremely responsive and kind.

The Battery sits on the entrance to the harbour, on the slopes of Signal Hill. It is sometimes described as an outport within the city of St. John's and is noted for its steep slopes, and colourful houses. The Battery has been the site, over the centuries, for gun emplacements (batteries), such as Fort Waldegrave, for the defence of St. John's Harbour, including during both World Wars. It is home to Chain Rock, a land outcropping to which a large chain was attached connecting to Fort Amherst, since as early as 1770, to prevent the entry of enemy ships into St John's harbour. Chain Rock is one of two rocks located on opposite sides of the Narrows, the aptly named entrance to the harbour; Pancake Rock is on the opposite shore. The space between the two rocks is 174 metres. A defensive chain was stretched between the rocks by means of a capstan at nightfall. During World War I and II the chain was replaced with anti-submarine nets.
