Relax with the whole family at this charming stone cottage in County Durham. It is perfect for access to the countryside with beautiful walks and scenery right on your door step. A short 10 mins drive to Durham City Centre means that the cottage is a great base to explore all the local tourist attractions as well as its variety of bars & restaurants while enjoying the tranquility of its peaceful surroundings. Ideal for people exploring County Durham and North East England in General. A stay at Number 1 Cottage, set in scenic countryside in the pretty village of Brancepeth in County Durham, offers you the chance to escape from all the stresses of daily life. The cottage has all modern amenities including a spacious living area with TV, DVD player and a selection of books and games to enjoy. The recently renovated kitchen is complete with microwave, gas cooker, toaster, cafetiere and fridge and freezer as well as enough pots and pans and crockery for 10. Additionally a washing machine, airer, iron and ironing board are provided for those guests who prefer to sort the laundry before they arrive home. Upstairs, there is a family bathroom, a master bedroom and a twin room both with exquisite views over the surrounding countryside. Downstairs, a sofa bed means that guests up to 6 people can be catered for. A travel cot, high chair and stairgates are all available upon request for guests travelling with infants and young children. Please mention at time of booking. There is also ample parking at the front of the property as well as a beautiful yard & garden perfect for enjoying a BBQ or your breakfast coffee.

Lovely peaceful location, house was very clean. Issue with the bathroom, but hosts were proactive in sorting it out. Will definitely be back.

The cottage was lovely. We were visiting Durham for a family wedding and it was a great place for our family to stay. Really lovely area and great cottage.
Our 2nd visit and certainly not the last. An exceptionally clean and cosy well furnished country cottage. Modern kitchen and appliances, spacious lounge/diner, very comfy beds. A special thanks to Stephanie and Frank who are the most accomodating hosts who keep in touch and reply to any query extremely quickly. I strongly recommend staying here.

Set in stunning countryside on the edge of the historic world heritage site of Durham City, the cottage is one of two semi-detached properties that stand alone against a backdrop of fields and walking routes.
Locals are friendly and there are a number of places to visit close by including popular places to eat and drink. Brancepeth Castle and the Parish Church of St Brandon's are both rich in history and definitely worth a visit.
Brancepeth is also home to a beautiful parkland golf course, designed by the world famous architect Harry Colt in 1924 and laid out on what was Brancepeth Castle Deer Park.
The course of 6400 yards, SSS 71, offers a great variation of holes. The deep ravine cutting through the course, provides some challenging tee shots.
Further afield, Durham is 10-15 minutes drive. Spend a day here visiting the Norman Cathedral and castle, or walk along the Riverbanks. Bishop Auckland, with its many attractions, is a 15 minute drive away. The cottage is a 10 minute walk from the nearest bus stop.
You will require transport to get the most out of your visit, however once you arrive the cottage is surrounded by country lanes perfect for using a bike or long walks with the dog.
There is a bus stop a short walk away where you can catch a bus into Durham City or there are Ubers/taxis available who will be more than happy to help get you to town and back.
