Haraldur's place was perfect for an overnight stop on our self-driven tour of the 'Golden Circle'. The room itself was comfortable enough for the two of us (pretty standard: en-suite bathroom, a double bed, a desk and a tv), but what stood out was the communal space downstairs (where free coffee, tea and snacks were available at all times) and the host themselves. Having had unexpected heavy weather on the days we were driving, our car had gotten stuck in the snow a few meters from the guesthouse. For nearly 1 hour in the freezing cold, Haraldur helped us by shovelling snow and then towing our car free so we could continue on our journey. The great hosting didn't stop there; the next morning he offered us tips on local places to eat and sights to visit, and, he explained every part of the breakfast spread and how it related to Icelandic culture. The overall experience was definitely positive and I encourage anyone passing through to stay here.

Clean, quiet place to stay. We slept 11 hours straight here after being up for 36 hours. Good breakfast. I recommend trying the creamed herring if it’s available, but there are plenty of less adventurous options. Close to Silfra, Gullfoss, Geysir.
