Apple Hill delights guests with an easy cottage style, set on a back road with hill views. The fireplace, hot tub and overall décor enhance the Catskills experience, especially after skiing at Plattekill, just 6.5 miles from the house. The deck and screened porch provide additional nooks and crannies for hanging out. The well-appointed kitchen, renovated in 2022, includes a gas stove and small island. From there a long farmhouse table provides one of three dining options for savoring your feasts (the others are on the deck and in the screened porch). The living room is at the far end of the open plan space, punctuated by a fireplace insert and pretty wood-paneled chimney. A glass slider leads out to the screened porch, which in turns leads to the deck. There is a powder room with fun wallpaper and double Kohler sink off the living room, with the full bathroom at the start of a corridor that leads to the two bedrooms. The bathroom has a tiled shower. The hot tub is outside the living room, and a basket of flip flops is there for guests' use.

We had a perfect, peaceful weekend — the house had all the amenities and the view was incredible. Jennifer was very responsive and had plenty of local tips. We can’t wait to go back!

This place was ideal for us! Hot tub, fire pit outside, fireplace inside, laundry, WiFi, but what really stood out was the design! The seamless indoor/outdoor living and all the interior details down to the lighting made staying here a true joy. The views of the hills, the sound of the babbling brook and the old train tracks down the road made the setting perfect too. Jennifer could not have been a more gracious, attentive and kind host. I highly recommend!
Jennifer’s place was beautiful! A very peaceful spot with beautiful surroundings. We really enjoyed the hot tub and old time feel of the town. Jennifer was super friendly and really quick with responding to any questions we had. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and private getaway. If you visit, definitely check out Chappie’s! The food was incredible and the staff was very personable. We had a great time!

Apple Hill is just off a very quiet country road, which sees little traffic. It skirts Lake Wawaka, which is really the East Branch of the Delaware River, but is a section that had long ago been dammed, creating this long waterway. You can rent kayaks just a walk down the road and explore the lake and observe its abundant birdlife, which includes an eagle population that's really making a comeback. There is a largely flat loop along Old River Road and around Lake Wawaka that is sought out for walking (or biking).
Halcottsville is a rural area with no public transportation, so having a car is a necessity (plus you get to take in the scenic backroads that make the area so memorable). In winter be sure to have a car that can handle the snow.

I founded the vacation rentals company Red Cottage Inc., selling it after 15 years. During most of that time, River Cottage was my primary home, having moved up from NYC. Eventually I bought and gut-renovated magical Blue Quill Cabin, and added Apple Hill and Old Campbell Place to the portfolio. My criteria was a home I'd be willing to live in myself. All are wonderfully restful and restorative places, and that is what I wish for my guests.
