We had a great time at Brook House. The accommodation was in a fantastic location, quiet but with good facilities on the doorstep. The house was immaculate and tastefully presented with everything we needed.
It’s very unusual to feel totally at home in a property that isn’t your own, but Brook House really did feel like home. We were sad to go.
What an excellent place to stay. Beautifully furnished and very clean. Everything we needed in the kitchen and it was lovely and warm. We had an open fire but didn’t need it as the radiators were so good. Bathroom very clean and functional. The main bed room had a fabulous bed which was very comfy. All in all I would recommend this place to stay as it is great value for money. Thank you
Absolutely lovely cottage. Beautifully decorated to a high standard and impeccably clean. We had a ovely holiday. Askrigg was great for us. There were 3 pubs within 5 min walk. We ate at the crown inn and the kings arms as they were both dog friendly and suited our family best (my husband, 10 year old son and I). There was plenty to do in the area, but worth noting our dog had to stay on the lead for most of our outings to protect the sheep / lambs and nesting ground birds, which is totally understandable. All in all a great holiday.
In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park the vibrant village of Askrigg is an excellent base for exploring all the area has to offer. Boasting three busy pubs The Crown Inn, The Middle House and The Kings Arms, all offering a different dining experience. A well stocked village shop, Syke's House and delicatessen, The Bakewell are full of sweet treats and home cooked meals to take back to the comfort of your cottage. For a gift to take home Heather and Grouse has locally handmade crafts.
There are many walks with spectacular scenery straight from your front door. Mill Gill Force on the edge of the village is a woodland walk with views of waterfalls.
A 10 minute drive away is Hawes, a small but busy market town with Independent shops and eateries, and also home to The Wensleydale Creamery where you can watch the traditional cheese being made and have a taste too!
The Dales Countryside Museum gives an insight into days gone by.
A short drive over the heather covered moorland takes you to Swaledale, a narrow valley with traditional dry stone walls and field barns that are a feature of the beautiful landscape.
A 30 minute drive away is Richmond, a thriving market town with eateries a plenty and its very own Norman castle, Richmond Castle with spectacular views overlooking the fast flowing river Swale; The Georgian Theatre Royal, the oldest working theatre in its original form; and The Green Howards Museum, telling the fascinating story of this distinguished regiment. Grab a bite to eat or watch a film at The Station Cinema.
