坎布里亚 · 整套民居 · 2室3床1.0卫 · 可住4人 · The Artists House w/ cosy fire and private garden
This light and airy home is on the edge of the UNESCO Lake District National Park, a 20-minute drive from the northern fells or miles of peaceful coastline. Cockermouth castle is only a short walk away together with town amenities and main bus routes. Enjoy the quirky layout, with views of rural town life from the first floor kitchen diner. Sprinkled with artworks and books, a strong shower, log-burner and private walled garden, this is a unique place from which to base your stay in the lakes. The kitchen drawers are fully stocked with all you could need, whether its cake-making or cooking a roast dinner, and there’s also a washer-dryer. The table and chairs are a vintage piece, with a local history connection. The lounge has a modern eclectic feel, with the contemporary paintings dotted about. The 3-seater sofa and armchair are super comfy, the Wifi is fast, and the TV is Smart, with Netflix installed. Unusually, the master double bedroom is on the ground floor, but this is handy for access to the back garden on a crisp bright morning. The twin room is on the first floor next to the bathroom, with hairdryer and dressing table, and a whimsical décor to carry you off into your sweet dreams. The bathroom has a strong hot shower and wide bath. The rear walled garden bursts with flowers, greenery and blossoms throughout the year, a beautiful outside space in which to relax. There is a shared alley, accessed via an unlocked door onto the street, where bikes and outdoor gear can be stored temporarily. There is an outdoor tap for washing equipment etc.
Celia is a great host and was always quick to respond. Place was spotless Property very close to main road.
Enjoyed our stay at lovely cottage. Well positioned, nicely furnished with some nice touches. Clean and well maintained with all the comforts of home. Celia was a great host.
Cockermouth is a gem of town, with a changing array of independent boutiques, antique shops, art shops and galleries, as well as pubs, restaurants and cafes. The Kirkgate Arts and Heritage centre offers arthouse cinema and live music, and Cockermouth hosts various food and cultural festivals through the year. The National Trust’s Wordsworth House and Gardens, with café and shop, is just round the corner and worth a visit. Your nearest lake is Bassenthwaite Lake, just 7 miles away, with a stunning backdrop of the iconic Skiddaw, one of the highest mountains in England. The area offers fantastic walking and cycle routes as well as an osprey viewpoint. Bassenthwaite is also home to The Lake District Wildlife Park and also the Lakes Distillery. The popular town of Keswick is 14 miles away and can be reached by car in about 25 minutes. Whinlatter Forest Park is well-loved by walkers and cyclists or further down the valley Crummock Water and Buttermere lake offer atmospheric walks and scenery.
You are 5-10 minutes walk from the river and castle, and the town centre. Aldi is a 5-minute walk, or a 1 minute-drive. To park right in the centre, the easiest place is behind Sainsbury's, a 2-minute drive away. There is short-term disk-parking along the Main Street, but this tends to be busy.
The X4/5 buses run through the Main Street in Cockermouth, heading east through to Keswick (access to northern fells), and west to Workington. You need a car to access the coast at Allonby (ice-cream and chip shop, great views of Scotland, 25 mins) or St Bees (dramatic cliffs, 35 mins).
