This was a perfect place for our first time in this area. We really enjoyed getting to experience floating in the canal and on the river and most of all, we loved seeing the manatees!
We stayed at the Funky Flamingo the first week in April with my wife, twin 11 year old boys, and 9 year old daughter. We had a few manatees swim by the dock every day and were able to spend time with them in the kayaks and paddle board provided. The location is actually I think better than being right on the river because it is much more private. The river is less than a minute paddle. Staying on the canal was key so we could hit the river early and late when most of the other people were off the river. Great location to explore other places such as the mermaid show at the state park, Rainbow river (highly recommend), Crystal River, Hernando and Pine Island. Very highly recommend!

My husband and I visited the Funky Flamingo with our two kids, 4 and 6 y/o. This special house is SO charmingly decorated and truly a slice of “Old Florida”— with all the modern touches and amenities one could ask for. We especially appreciated the games and toys for the kids and found the whole property very family-friendly. We were surrounded by nature and wildlife and we loved spending time on the huge screened-in lanai, listening to the birds and the sound of the river. It is located close enough to the main river to make for a nice paddle to the State Park but far enough away to be a safe and quiet place to swim without much boat traffic. We also greatly appreciated the variety of kayaks, paddles, and lifejackets available for use, and we spent lots of time on the water visiting with the locals (manatees!!). We had an amazing vacation and we hope we get to come back again soon!
Prior to staying at the Funky Flamingo, my husband and I hadn't been on a vacation together for almost 6 years, and it was totally worthy waiting for. What an amazing experience! We loved every single detail from our trip: The place and location were superb! The cottage was very cozy and clean, and the screened porch was our favorite part of it. All the amenities, including the kayaks were super fun and no words to describe the Weeki Wachee River!!! Our host Jan couldn't have been more responsive and helpful! What a sweet lady! Hopefully we'll be able to come back one day. We would 100% consider staying at the Funky Flamingo again.
