Situated on the edge of Ettrickbridge village, Riverside Cabin is in a lovely position on the bank of the Ettrick Water, just a short walk from our local pub, The Cross Keys Inn, the village tennis court and park. Lots of lovely walks from the door and fantastic road cycling. The garden is a wildlife habitat and kept wild. Depending upon the time of the year there are lots of wild flowers, grasses and fruit bushes. You can spot wild orchids, foxgloves, cornflowers, poppies to name a few. Oyster Catchers nest close by in the spring and there is an abundance of local wildlife to spot from roe deer to salmon to kingfishers to red squirrels and otters. Riverside Cabin has a well equipped kitchen with standing fridge freezer, electric oven, halogen hob and dishwasher. There is a washing machine and tumble drier in the spacious porch/utility. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower. The living area is the total width of the property with a sunny outlook and large dining table - ideal for cards, games and studying maps. Externally there is a lovely loggia bench overlooking the water and a picnic table and BBQ set in the wild garden. Please note: there are uneven steps to climb leading to the cottage from the roadside.
Louisa is very nice and her place is lovely. We had a great time visiting the villages around. It was also great to have the pub just a few minutes away by foot.
Really spacious and very cosy - it was the first very cold snap and the place kept us lovely and warm! Beautiful views out the windows. Lots of equipment and a lovely place to stay
Great little riverside cabin that was perfect for our needs last week. It is very remote but this wasn’t a big issue as we brought most of our food with us. We were travelling up and down to Glentress every day for the UCI world mountain bike championships so didn’t get much chance to explore the local area but the pub in the village was only 5 minutes walk away and very pleasant. The cabin itself is small but has everything you need including a kitchen with all the equipment needed to cook proper meals. I’d definitely like to go back when I have more time to explore the immediate area
Lovely little cabin right by the river. Idyllic to sit outside and listen to the river going by. (No access to the river from the garden) Basic but nicely furnished with the most beautiful bed linen! Everything there you would need with a lovely bottle of apple juice and some biscuits as a welcome gift which was a nice touch. Only slight issue was parking, you can't park on site although the ad says you can. You'd have to park half on the road/verge. Road not shown in the pictures which is right by it. Proper parking is only a couple of minutes walk away though where your car would be safer. Village pub is lovely with nice beers, delicious food and lovely people.
Ettrickbridge is a very pretty village set in the Ettrick Valley, 6 miles from the famous Scottish Borders town of Selkirk. There is a very good traditional pub in the village called The Cross Keys Inn, Ettrickbridge that serves food and is open throughout the day. Plenty of country walks and cycle routes from the doorstep.
There is no public transport to the village but we have good local taxi service. You can travel by train to Tweedbank and taxi from there. Parking is roadside, either on the verge by the cottage or further into the village next to the kirk.
