Dating back to the 1650s, the dog friendly Appleloft suite is a first floor suite awash with period features with oak beams and massively thick cob walls. There's one huge bedroom with a super king bed, a separate lounge with sofa bed, kitchen with Aga cooker, views over the gardens and bathroom with double width shower. The suite also has it's own garden space (not enclosed) with Kadai BBQ / firepit, picnic bench and sun loungers. The Appleloft suite is country chic. The house is ancient, dating back to the 17th century with thick cob walls and vaulted beamed ceilings. It has a huge bedroom with a king size bed and can be fitted with extra beds as needed. With it's own entrance, bathroom, fitted kitchen with Aga cooker the Appleloft suite is a real holiday gem. The suite also has it's own garden space (not enclosed) with Kadai BBQ / firepit, picnic bench and sun loungers. We accept up to 2 small dogs up to the size of a small Labrador in this accommodation. We have 7 acres of woods, fields & streams on site or you can explore the 200 acres of National Trust and Foresty Commission woodland and park land right next door.
If you want peace and tranquillity of the country life then this is the place to come to. I stayed for a long weekend to go to a neighbouring village to help clear a family lake in the height of hurricane Brian and I couldn't of wished for a better location of this place. We loved opening the curtains in the morning to the chickens and goats being there. You even have the opportunity to go and help and can even have fresh eggs for your breakfast. What is really lovely when you get there is the lovely cake, milk, bread and butter that is there for you. I totally recommend this place for everyone as it accommodates families and couples who just want to get away for a piece of the country life. 😁
Couldn't have hoped for a better base for our short break in Devon. Puddleduck Valley is set in an actual idyll, with lots to do on site (especially if - like us - you have a couple of budding junior farmers in the family who will love the well-organised and fun animal feeding activities). Padstow and the Eden Project were an easy drive away, although we were staying just before the school holidays. Lots of places to go nearby however - Bude is lovely and lively, with an excellent Beach and a 'Sea Pool' which we hear is amazing too, plus some fab little beaches such as Sandymouth Bay a little way along the coast. The steam railway in Launceston is a bona fide 'hidden gem'. Melanie and Phil are warm and welcoming hosts (we were greeted with fresh strawberries and some scrummy home-cooked scones!), and absolute naturals with the kids. Our only regret was not booking a longer stay.
Lovely secluded setting with very welcoming and friendly hosts. Accommodation very comfortable. Our son loved meeting and greeting all the animals (often more than once a day....) Highly recommended for city families wanting to give their children a taste of the outdoors.
Many holiday rentals purport to being a home from home - but this actually felt like it was - the welcome was warm and incredibly friendly, the Appleloft was equipped with everything you could need and nothing was too much for Melanie and Phil. We arrived late, in the pouring rain and Melanie still helped us with our bags - there were essentials in the kitchen - and delicious home-made scones. Our children loved everything about Puddleduck Valley and are already asking to go back in the Summer - when I imagine it would be even more idyllic. It really is a fabulous place to take children - where they can run free and get dirty!! We were sad to leave and could have quite happily stayed longer. There was still so much to explore and they could have stayed in the rowing boat and on the tree swing all day!! A really fabulous weekend and a real gem of a find - we will be back and we will tell all our friends. Thank you Melanie Phil Heidi and Abigail for sharing your lovely home with us ......
Devon and the North Cornwall has loads to offer. It's one of the last unspoilt areas of England with high hedges and real community. We have mountains and surfing beaches within half an hour drive. The beaches at Bude are only 25 min away, the mountains of Dartmoor 20 mins away, RHS Rosemoor up the road and superb kids days out at the Big Sheep and Milky Way.
Unfortunately the only realistic way to get to us is by car.
