The Travelling Post Office (TPO) is a Victorian railway carriage that featured in the first series of Michael Portillo's Great British Railway Journeys. The TPO is part of the award winning fleet of Railholiday carriages. In 2016 we won the accolade of most sustainable tourism business in England in the Visit England awards, as recognition of our green approach. Expect fresh home grown flowers, wood-burner and logs, local welcome pack, and gardens filled with wildlife friendly plants. We have tried to make the Travelling Post Office as accessible as possible. A fire deaf friendly fire alarm is available on request, and can provide mobility aids, such as toilet risers or easy grip cutlery. There is a ramp access to the main door, but not to the front, which has two steps. Railway carriages are restricted in size. If you are particularly tall, please talk to us about whether it will suit. The Travelling Post Office has a strictly no smoking inside. Arrival time is any time after 3.30, guests need to vacate by 10.30.
There is a restaurant nearby that will deliver food plated to your carriage, at no extra charge.
There is a pub in the village, and several excellent pubs in the nearby area, many offering good food and live music.
Nestled on the Lyner river, in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Special Scientific Interest, St Germans has many interesting features, including a Norman Church and the country house estate of Port Eliot (which opens from March - late June each year).
The Travelling Post Office is well positioned to explore the beautiful beaches and fishing villages of the Rame Peninsula, as well as being within easy reach of the moors.
It is easy to get about by train, with direct services to places like Truro, Totnes, and connections to branch lines to Falmouth and St Ives.
On foot, there are lovely walks in the area.
We also have a cycle store for your use, should you wish to bring a bike; please let us know in advance.
自我介绍
I'm a musician by trade but run Railholiday with husband Dave converting Victorian railway carriages along the Cornish main line. Green by nature, I love gardening, cycling, art, literature & live music. Because we have our own holiday accommodation we are very aware of how we like our property to be left and will always respect where we stay. Our main modes of travel are train, bike & foot. We do have a car, but it rarely crosses the Tamar.
