We are currently stationed in Japan so getting to this lovely home was no small task. Once we arrived, it was easy to make this a second home. If you are trying to avoid the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas, this is the place. There is a path close by for running and walking, and the house sits on a one lane road that is fairly quite. There was a kids scooter and a few bikes and helmets in the garage, but we didn't use them. During the day there are usually fruit stands about a mile and a half from the house. Fruits and vegetables are a little cheaper there and the ladies are friendly. We did two different fishing excursions and a kayaking tour out of Haleiwa Harbor and there were no complaints about the companies. It was great having less than a 10 minute drive to the harbor, fun shops, galleries, and the famous shave ice. There is a little grocery store there too if you forgot something, but the prices are much higher. If you are military affiliated, Schofield Commissary is only 20 minutes from the house. There were so many things that were available for use that we were very surprised and thankful for. I'm not sure if they were provided by the owner or left by other guests. There were many baby gates (we purchased another one), two pack in plays, two fold out cots (for the siblings that decided they couldn't share a bed), lots of boogie boards, sand toys, snorkel gear, and enough beach towels for the entire beach. The house was fully stocked with bath towels, dishes, pots ad pans, and even some plastic kids dishes. The hot tub didn't seem to be well maintained, so we didn't really use it. Spending time on the public beach just outside the backyard was the most amazing time. You will watch sea turtles coming up for air during the day and they can be found sleeping peacefully in the sand at night. The kids loved trying to catch the ghost crabs, lizards, and lounging on the hammock. We were able to make wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. We went to a few other beaches during our stay, but the beach at the house was by far our favorite. We will be finding a way to make this vacation happen again in the future. There is a smaller home on the property next to the driveway that is rented out to a fantastic couple. They were able to guide us on the best local grinds, places to see that are kept on the down low, and other fun things to do. They are great people to talk to about the local area. They really felt like neighbors and friends by the time we left. They helped our kids boogie board and let the kids try their stand-up paddle board. They even let them make s'mors at their firepit. We did our best to respect their personal space, and they were so sweet when our kids bombarded them with questions and conversation. We were very grateful for their help and kindness during our stay.

My family moved here and we got to stay here for a month while we figured out housing. I will show all the pros and cons of the property so you have a full understanding of what we got with this property. Pros: The view is amazing! You walk in the front door and see a yard surrounded by plants and palm trees leading to the beach. We saw turtles just about every day!! I have two small kids and they loved the beach and the water. They provided snorkeling gear, an ocean kayak, life vests, umbrella, beach chairs, and some toys for the kids. So even if we didn’t want to have a beach day we could play in the yard or relax in the hammock. In the house, everything was provided. From an assortment of dish and cookware to beach towels and plenty of extra blankets and sheets. Whenever we had an issue we could call Gary and he helped us immediately. Overall we had a good time and we were glad to have the time to spoil ourselves before getting back to the grind. Cons: the first issue we had when we arrived was the gate to the property didn’t work. So every time you came and went you had to pull the gate open and closed. Lizards everywhere! Inside! Which was a huge concern for my family bc we had salmonella before from a lizard so having lizards in the house and having lizard poop all over the blinds, walls, and counters was a problem. While doing laundry a mouse was found in our washer with our clothes. The last week we were there termites flooded the master bedroom and bathroom. The master bathroom shower is dirty, the white type was brown. The blankets and sheets are old. Most if not all had holes in them and I don’t know if that’s from age our the mouse we killed in the washer. THE BIGGEST NEGATIVE for us was the lack of privacy. There is a man called Steve and his wife who rent the guest house in the front of the property. They have full access to the property and the yard for the beach. So they are walking by all the time and they had a friend over too. They were very nice and tried their best to give us privacy and walk by quickly, but I would have liked to known that before we got there. We also were not told Steve would be fixing both decks while we were there. I came down one day in a bra and shorts and there he was right outside the door working on the deck. So overall the place was good for the most part. My family had a blast and made the most of it!! But when you pay that much money you expect it to be what it looks like and the details of the place to cover what you can’t see. So I hope this review paints a clear picture of what you are getting for your money.
