Ixworth Thorpe · 农家仓房 · 2室2床2.0卫 · 可住4人 · Spacious Suffolk Barn with Tennis Court
The barn provides spacious, comfortable accommodation in extensive gardens in the Suffolk countryside with easy access to the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds. The charming village of Ixworth nearby has two pubs, and an excellent restaurant, Theobolds. The barn is quiet and secluded and is a perfect base to explore Suffolk and Norfolk. Wyken Vineyards and the Euston estate are only a few miles away. Ixworth Thorpe is a small hamlet with a rare thatched church. This is a unique and very spacious barn providing sumptuous accommodation built around a private courtyard. There is a private driveway and ample parking. Use of tennis court by arrangement with owner. The kitchen is well equipped with a large range cooker, a microwave (in the utility room) and a dishwasher. There is plenty of room to eat in the kitchen with a large table and chairs and two big sofas. There is a separate utility room with a washing machine and a large fridge/freezer. The main barn room is an extensive double aspect room with huge, comfortable sofas, flat screen smart TV, wall mounted fire and a dining table that converts into a snooker table. The master bedroom is on the ground floor. There is a king sized bed, plenty of fluffy towels and ample hanging space. The main bathroom has a bath with shower attachment and there is a separate freestanding shower in the shower room off the kitchen. The mezzanine bedroom has a double bed with a balcony overlooking the main barn room. There is a steep staircase up to the mezzanine bedroom with a rope handrail. As the staircase is steep it is not suitable for children or anyone with a physical disability. It is for this reason we do not host children. There is a separate Barn Loft (also listed on Airbnb) with one bedroom for two people but this will never be let at the same time unless one group/family wish to book it with the Barn.
I rented Hilary’s Barn for a period of 10 months. It was my home from home. Hilary made me feel very welcome and was very responsive to any requests. The barn is a restful place to stay, offering peace and quiet. I was sad to leave and highly recommend the barn
The property is an extremely large, characterful, traditional timber framed barn with a huge amount of space. Hilary, the host, provides everything you could ever need for a great stay. From her thoughtful welcoming basket of goodies to the very high standard of accommodation which is on offer. She is an extremely welcoming and thoughtful host who we would not hesitate to stay with again. Thank you very much Hilary for a lovely holiday!
This property exceeded our expectations, we had an incredible time within the barn and using the amenities such as the tennis court. Hilary was a wonderful host and took the time to stock the barn with all the kitchen essentials, including some treats and gifts. It was very clean and looked exactly like the pictures. Overall a great stay.
We had the most fantastic stay at Hilary's place - not only is the barn itself absolutely beautiful, Hilary has thought of everything you could possibly want or need! We spent almost 6 weeks here whilst moving house and we didn't really have to bring anything other than clothes. Hilary was the perfect host - quick to respond when we needed anything at all (though the guide to the barn is also really well thought out and put together) but otherwise happy to leave us to it so it actually felt like our home from home. The location is really tranquil with lovely walks from the doorstep. It's a little drive out to the shops (about 15 mins to a big Tesco) but the barn has not only an under counter fridge but also has an additional full height fridge-freezer, so you can get a decent shop in. The whole place is even more grand than it appears on the photos and everything is super clean and comfortable. We were able to work from home when needed thanks to decent WiFi. Thanks again, Hilary!
The busy village of Ixworth is the nearest village - two miles away - with two pubs, an excellent restaurant, a butcher and general store. The historic market town of Bury St Edmunds with numerous restaurants , the smallest pub in the country, the Abbey, the twice weekly market, theatre and beautiful old buildings is easily accessible and just nine miles away. There are wonderful walks nearby in Thetford Forest. Wyken Vineyards is two miles away and has a wonderful Saturday morning market and award winning restaurant. We are lucky to have a very special bakery, Wooster’s, in the next village two miles away. If you walk there along country lanes you can reward yourself with delicious coffee and pastries or cakes.
A car is essential in the Suffolk countryside. There is ample parking for at least six cars to the right of the barn and plenty of car parks in neighbouring Bury St Edmunds.
