Skerrow is a two bedroom, dog-friendly holiday cottage (up to two dogs) with a private garden. It is located in the heart of New Galloway, close to the banks of Loch Ken. Perfectly suited to couples or small families., Skerrow is the ideal base to explore Dumfries and Galloway in south-west Scotland and beyond. Families, history and culture enthusiasts, adventurers, mountain-bikers, hikers and more all love the unspoilt beauty of Galloway. There truly is something for everyone. Accessed via outside steps that lead up from a small courtyard, the two bedroom holiday accommodation is arranged over one floor. Its light and airy open plan kitchen/dining /lounge area is fully equipped with everything you'll need to enjoy your self-catering holiday. Including a dining table and chairs and a cosy L-shaped sofa to curl up on as you watch a movie or listen to your favourite tunes. Skerrow has two bedrooms – one double and one twin room. The comfy beds are made up with fresh, luxury linen to help you enjoy a good night’s sleep. In the spacious bathroom there’s a wash basin, WC and a bath with shower over and fluffy towels are provided. A triple patio door opens from the lounge onto a private outside patio area with seating that leads on to a beautiful, enclosed garden with views from the top across the village and beyond. A safe place for our younger guests (and your dogs) to run and play. Parking is available on the main street outside or in the public car park just a short walk down the hill opposite where there are EV charging points too.
What a beautiful relaxing place to stay, had everything we needed. Skerrow was home from home. Host was very accommodating and will definitely stay again when up in Scotland. Thank you for a beautiful weekend x
New Galloway has a thriving community and is the ideal holiday destination. As well as an excellent shop it has a café, an arts centre which has regular performances, a post office and a pub within walking distance. The smallest Royal Burgh in Scotland, New Galloway is the perfect base to explore south-west Scotland from countryside to coast. It is in the heart of the Galloway Forest, close to The Southern Upland Way. Discover the lochs and the hills, harbours and market towns, castles, gardens, galleries and more. There’s so much to see and do here. You’ll want to return to this part of Scotland again and again!
With walks in the forest behind the golf course as well as wild swimming and fishing from the west bank of Loch Ken, there is plenty to keep you active during your stay. Not forgetting the Golf Club and Kenmure Castle – all within walking distance. If you hop in your car (or on your bike), you can visit the Galloway Activity Centre, explore Galloway Forest Park (an International Dark Sky Park) and venture along the Raiders’ Road to Otter Pool. All of this is just waiting for you to discover!
Roads head out in five directions from New Galloway:
1. To the south is the food town of Castle Douglas. Dotted with independent shops, cafes and restaurants as well as Threave Castle and Threave Garden.
2. To the south-west is the artists’ town, Kirkcudbright. A beautiful harbour town with independent shops, a castle, museum, cafes, swimming pool and more.
3. To the west is Newton Stewart, another thriving town with a leisure centre and a unique art deco cinema.
4. To the north is the busier seaside resort of Ayr. Along with the sea front, shops, cinema and restaurants, the birthplace of Robert Burns has a racecourse and three public golf courses.
5. To the east Is Dumfries, a historic market town known as the Queen of the South.
New Galloway is central to many of the region’s market towns, fishing ports, castles, beaches, art galleries, activities and more. So there are plenty of places to visit and things to do for the whole family.
