Hopkins is widely considered a hidden gem in Belize. It is a small, coastal, fishing village that is centrally located to the vast majority of Belize's most exciting water and land attractions. Hopkins Village is a Garifuna village on the coast of the Stann Creek District in Belize. Hopkins is considered by some Belizeans to be the cultural center of the Garifuna population in Belize. The town hosts its own national holiday, Hopkins Day, and welcomes people for their celebration on Garifuna Independence Day as well, they do this with drum ceremonies that can last till early hours in the morning.
Hopkins is surrounded by the Maya Mountains and the Cockscomb Range inland, and the Caribbean Sea on its shore. It is also very close to the Sittee River.
Today Hopkins is a small but vibrant community of approximately 1,000 villagers. The people live mostly by farming and fishing, and more recently many have found work in the growing tourist industry. The residents are known for their friendliness and genuine hospitality, and welcome visitors to their village. Hopkins has a selection of gift shops, restaurants and small bars. Hopkins was recently voted "The Friendliest Village in Belize" by Belize First Magazine.
There are several grocery stores in the village, plus local vegetable/fruit vendors. You can also rent a vehicle in the village or a golf cart to get around. There is a pharmacy in Hopkins village.

Hopkins is located 4 miles (6.4 km) east of the Southern Highway.
By Car: There are many options for rental cars at the airport in Belize City. From there, Seiri del Mar is a 2.5 hour drive. We suggest that drivers get on the Southern Highway and take the turn off for Hopkins at mile 10. The only gas station is at Sittee River, about 5 miles (8 km) south of Hopkins.
By Air: Travelers can fly from Belize City to Dangriga via a 15 minute commuter flight with Tropic or Maya air.
We have bicycles that are available to our guests free of charge for getting around. There are also golf cart rentals and taxi services.
