Kinkajoungalows at Poor Man's Paradise - Find your own piece of paradise where the jungle meets the sea Our spacious and bright jungalows are located in Playa Rincón, a 2km stretch of magnificent deserted beach popular among seasoned surfers, and only 20' walk from paradisaical San Josecito beach, one of the best kept secrets in Costa Rica. Our cabins are surrounded by majestic tropical forest and wildlife. Fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle and rise to the melody of countless birds. Our bungalows are spacious and bright, designed to integrate with the surrounding nature. Built in natural materials with clean decor and featuring wooden floors throughout. Casa Azul is our largest bungalow. A fully equipped home with three bedrooms, one bathroom, kitchen and chill-out area. An outside veranda overlooking a stream invites you to relax and enjoy your morning coffee and the greenery, often spying on the occasional wildlife visitors: some of our regulars include capuchin and spider monkeys, toucans, tapirs, hummingbirds, red macaws and coatis. There is also a separate chill-out area perfect for yoga, relaxing on hammocks or hanging out with friends. Casa Azul can accommodate up to 10 guests at maximum capacity and 4-6 more comfortably. It is perfect for a family with children or a group of friends traveling together. There is a restaurant on site offering three meals a day, filtered water to refill your bottle, tea and coffee throughout the day. In the evenings, you can grab a drink or a delicious cocktail at Poor Man's Bar while listening to music and trying your latest moves on the wooden dance floor. Wifi is available in the house as well as in the restaurant and bar.
Very charming wooden house, super attentive host. Large nice kitchen but limited kitechenrware , and not so clean. So if you don´t plan do do any cooking and don´t mind it its not a super clean house, go for it! It has a prime location, got a lot of charm, and the host was super.
Samuel kept us well informed. Ricon Beach and the surrounding was absolutely stunning and the beaches quiet. Food prices where reasonable. I would definitely recommend the place
Staying at Kinkajoungalows, Poor Man’s Paradise was a highlight. This cabin is comfortable with air conditioning. We connected with Lisandro Taxi after flying to Drake Bay to get there. We stopped for groceries and at a fruit stand so we were able to make some of our meals. We enjoyed the meals we had at the restaurant, however, it was nice to be on our own schedule. We also walked to the Sunset Restaurant near Playa San Josecito, the most beautiful beach. I would recommend continuing the walk to visit the Rio Claro to swim and see the turtle rescue. We took an early morning and an evening walk with Consuelo, Samuel’s sister. This was well worth it to identify birds and animals. Samuel arranged snorkeling for us with Christian Linch and this was a highlight, as was the trip to Corcovado San Pedrillo with the guide Manuel. The cabin is a bit more rustic than the photos show and you may find a few bugs. The staff were always helpful and try very hard to take good care of you.
Our stay in Drake Bay exceeded all expectations! Samuel, our host, went above and beyond, ensuring we had everything we needed. He even orchestrated a surprise birthday cake for our friend, showcasing his thoughtful hospitality. The house's proximity to Corcovado National Park and Caño Island made exploring effortless, with Samuel expertly arranging tours. The on-site bar and restaurant offered delicious cuisine, and the sunsets from the property were nothing short of magical. If you're seeking a host who truly cares about your experience and a location brimming with adventure, this is the place to be!
My family and I spent 4 nights in the bungalow and had an absolutely incredible time. The cottage is part of a larger "resort" with a bar/restaurant and lots of travelers from all over the world. The cottage itself was great, super spacious, has everything you'd need -- great deck over looking the jungle and cool perch with hammocks and rocking chairs. The beach it's on Playa Rincon is stunning. Nearby beach Playa Sanjosecito is probably one of the prettiest I've ever seen. There is a trail that goes from the resort to the town of Drake which is incredible. We recommend doing the canoe/waterfall tour at the Rio Claro. It's definitely worth the trek which consists of getting to Sierpe then taking a boat through one of the largest mangrove reserves in Latin American and then into the open sea before arriving in Drake Bay. You can either take a pick up truck taxi or the boat to the bungalow. I would totally come back and plan on doing so soon. Highly recommend.
Osa Península was designated by National Geographic the most biologically intense place on Earth. As much as 2.5% of the world's biodiversity is here. There is so much to do and to see that you will definitely want to stay longer:
Isla del Caño: considered the second-best diving spot in Costa Rica after Isla del Coco. From Kinkajoungalows, you can book half a day snorkeling and diving excursions throughout the year, as well as dolphin and whale watching during whale season July-September (although whales are sometimes seen as late as December!).
Corcovado National Park: access to the Park is with a guide only. From Kinkajoungalows, you can book excursions to both Serena (boat only) and San Pedrillo (~2hs walk, or boat) Ranger stations.
Walkable destinations:
-> San Josecito beach (20') - one of the best kept secrets of Costa Rica. Bring your picnic, enjoy a beach day and snorkel among some of the remaining coral formations.
-> Rio Claro (40'-60') - enjoy a dip in the refreshing waters at low tide and the stunning views where the Rio Claro meets the ocean.
-> Walk to Punta Campanario - across primary and secondary forest, bordering the ocean and passing through various small waterfalls (45'). You will feel right in the movie set of survivor!
-> Hike to Agujitas Town (~2.5hs depending on your speed), follow a forest path bordering the ocean passing several smaller beaches on the way to Agujitas town. Absolutely stunning!. Bring water and footwear that doesn't mind mud. Have a rewarding lunch in town at the end of your walk, and catch a ride back to Playa Rincón on a quad - an adventure in and of itself!
Nearby towns:
Los Planes: a small settlement with a grocery store is a 15' drive away across a creek and Rio Claro, or 40' walk. You can order groceries via whatsapp and have your shopping delivered for a small fee (weather permitting).
Agujitas: the main town on Drake Bay. Here you will find restaurants, some small supermarkets and stores. From Playa Rincon is a 15' boat ride to Agujitas or 35' by car.
***NOTE there is no pharmacy or ATM in Drake Bay, so make sure you bring any medicines and cash with you. The nearest ATM and pharmacy are in Palmar Norte***
Getting to Playa Rincón - there are several options:
- Fly from San José to Drake Bay with FlySansa.com, then get a taxi from Drake Bay airport in Progreso to Playa Rincón.
- Take the public boat from Sierpe (two departures a day) to Playa Rincón. You will need to tell your captain you are continuing to Playa Rincón and not getting off in Agujitas, which is the first and main stop.
- By car via Rancho Quemado (coming from Puerto Jimenez) or via Sierpe (you will have to get your car on a small raft accross the Sierpe River). In either case, you will need a 4WD. Once in Playa Rincón, you can park your car at the top of the property.
