Experience unspoiled nature at our small eco-friendly hotel Las Caletas Lodge in the South Pacific of Costa Rica on the Osa Peninsula. We are located between Drake Bay and Corcovado National Park in an area known as "Las Caletas" (small coves) and the Caño Island Biological Reserve is only 12 nautical miles from the coast. This area of the Osa Peninsula is accessible only by boat and is one of the most remote places in Costa Rica.

Below are some of the options for getting to Las Caletas Lodge from the San Jose area. Let us know which options you choose or any special needs you may have so we can coordinate all arrangements. Please note that access to Las Caletas is by boat only. We recommend that you wear water shoes and shorts. Most domestic flights leave early in the morning, so your international flight should arrive very early in order to make the entire trip in one day. If you cannot arrive early enough, you may need to spend the night in San Jose. If so, we can recommend a good B & B near the international airport.
-You can drive from San Jose to Sierpe, where you can park your rental car in a secure parking lot for US-$6/per night. This trip takes about 5 hours on good roads (Hwy 27 and 34). We will prepare the boat for you. You should arrive in Sierpe around 11 am to take the boat at 11:30 am. Departure from Las Caletas to Sierpe is at 7:15 am.

The fastest way to get to Drake Bay from San Jose airport is by plane to Drake Bay or Palmar Sur airstrips (approximately 45 minutes flight). We recommend flying with SANSA Airlines. SANSA offers direct flights with a modern fleet from a terminal right next to the international airport, and is an excellent choice if you have a tight connecting flight. We recommend flying into Drake Bay and departing via Palmar South. This way you won't miss the beautiful boat ride through the mangroves of the Sierpe River. Simply choose the "National" option to take advantage of the special hotel discount. NATURE AIR is located at Pavas airport, a 30-minute drive from the international terminal.
- Local transfers from Drake Bay airstrip: Our cab driver "Dolphin" will pick you up at the airstrip for a 15 minute ride to the small town of Agujitas (Drake Bay). From there, it is a 10 minute boat transfer to Las Caletas.
- From the Palmar Sur airstrip: Our cab driver "Reinier" will take you for 20 minutes to the small village of Sierpe, in front of the river. From the dock, the boat will take you through the mangrove estuary of Sierpe. The Sierpe River empties into the Pacific Ocean, so be aware that sometimes the boat ride across the river mouth can be quite challenging. We are another 20 minutes from the river mouth. Total travel time on the boat is approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
Domestic airlines "SANSA" and "NATUREAIR" fly daily to Drake Bay and Palmar Sur (travel time about 45 minutes). You continue your trip by cab and boat to our lodge.
We recommend traveling with SANSA because they offer direct flights from the international airport with a very modern and safe fleet.
