Brand new open plan garden studio apartment within walking distance of Melrose (1 mile). A beautiful, peaceful setting in the historic village of Newstead at the foot of the Eildon Hills. Private parking and easy access to local walks taking you to Melrose Abbey, the St Cuthbert's Way, Trimontium, the Leaderfoot Bridge and Old Melrose. The garden studio faces a large private garden next to Mill Cottage (the main house). It's part of a new building with its own private entrance and parking. The garden studio apartment (one open plan space with separate bathroom) is in the same building as the owner's (Jane!) garden office/workshop. You are assured of privacy and the only likely noises - the birdsong, or the sound of a horse passing by the house on the nearby bridle path. The property is not suitable for pets. There is a small kitchen with microwave, toaster, kettle, Nespresso machine and fridge. I don’t have cooking facilities but it’s ideal for breakfast and light meals.

Jane’s garden studio is really lovely, the peacefulness and comfort of the accommodation, made it the perfect place to stay.
Jane was a great host. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and the space is very cosy and great for its intended use. Jane was very attentive and super friendly and made sure to check that everything for my stay was up to standard. Highly recommended.
What a wonderful place, so well appointed and very private. Jane was so welcoming and friendly and gave us lots of local information on places to visit or explore . As a result we always had something interesting to do irrespective of the weather. We would highly recommend Jane’s place as a base from where to explore the wonderful Borders area. We had a wonderful few days at Jane’s studio, which is both stylish and impeccable. It is a very beautiful, comfortable space to be in and gave us all we needed for a great 4 day stay. Jane has a wide knowledge of the local area which she is very willing to share. She is available if you need her to be but is also very discreet if you want privacy. Jane is an excellent host. We would definitely return, and recommend a stay there without hesitation.

Mill Cottage Garden Studio is based in the quiet and historic village of Newstead on the edge of Melrose. Newstead's claim to fame is that it's the oldest continuously inhabited village in Scotland. The 'Trimontium' Roman settlement in Newstead was the largest Roman fort north of Hadrian's Wall. The Trimontium Museum in Melrose is a great starting point for exploring this history. Additionally, many of the stone masons who built Melrose Abbey lived in Newstead and it is reportedly the site of the first Masonic Lodge in Scotland.
Newstead has a very active and friendly community and the village green in the centre of the village was recently purchase through the Newstead Village Community Trust. Plans to develop the Village Green are underway - watch this space
Melrose is just 1 mile from Newstead and can be accessed by road or footpath. Newstead is just 3.5 miles from Tweedbank Railway Station. You can park for free at the station and catch a train into Edinburgh. The journey take approx 55 mins and follows the route of the A7, winding through beautiful scenery. Many other Scottish Borders towns are easily accessible from Newstead as we are located off the A6091 Bypass. Buses run from Galashiels to various towns as well as Edinburgh and Berwick-upon-Tweed
