Amazing location with fabulous views especially at sunset. As described in the details the bathroom and kitchen are separate from the bedroom space but this worked ok for us. Kitchen was very well equipped. The bedroom had an excellent comfy sofa bed and lovely decor with lots of nice touches like games and books. We stayed with our 8m old baby and had enough space. We did some lovely walks from the property to beautiful deserted beaches. Would recommend if wanting a break from the city!
We are on an island surrounded by sea. The island is joined to the mainland via a set of causeways. Within minutes of the house are a number of beaches and stunning views. The closest beach is Huston Beach, named after the acclaimed film director John Huston who in the 1960s had a small cottage (still there today) overlooking the beach where he painted. There are tales of Marlon Brando and John Huston driving at speed around the islands. His daughter Anjelica visited the island and was schooled at Kylemore Abbey.
The island is sparsely populated and the islanders earn a living by seaweed farming and fishing for the local lobsters and crab. The spoken language on the Island is Gaelic. We have no light or noise pollution, only sound is the sea and sky at night is crystal clear and great for star gazing. The island is a protected environment and truly is wild Ireland.
We are surrounded by other Islands, crumbling stone houses and masses of wildlife and heritage. In the summer you can see the famous Galway hooker boats across the bay. Dolphins, seals, and basking sharks frequent the waters around us
A 10 Minute walk takes you to the local Heritage Centre, museum and seaweed spa. There is a café there also that serves excellent coffee pastries and fantastic Irish Breakfasts. We have put a sample menu in the photos.
