Hotel el Congo is located in the heart of Bahía Drake, a short walk (300 meters) to the beach and 45 minutes to Caletas beach. There are taxis available to take you to Caletas or any of the other beautiful area beaches like San Josécito and Colorada. You can also request a tour outside from our place, we do not offer tours, you can always look around, there are some offfices that offer tours, the close office is next door at Míriams place, that takes you to the local forest at 2pm, or any of the other tours of the area such as Violin Island, the national park, or Caño Island. To request a tour just let us know, or you can go directly to the beach in front of Hotel Rancho Corcovado where the tours start.
There are also several local restaurants nearby. We recomend a good Restaurant next door, Restaurant Carey, and another one named, Restaurant El Tortugo.We also have a Supermarket like a 3 minutes walk where you will find anything you need.

How to get to Drake Bay from San José:
The best way to arrive is to fly to Drake Bay. There are 3 airlines that service the area from San José - Aerobell from Bolaños airport in Pavas, Skyway and SANSA from the main airport Juan Santamaria.
You can also fly to Palmar Sur, catch a taxi to where the boats depart, then take the boat to Drake Bay (see boat info below).
You can drive from San José to Drake:
You can choose between the Inter-American Highway (by San Isidro de Perez Zeledón) or by the new Costanera Highway (along the coast by Quepos and Dominical) to get to Palmar Norte. In Palmar Norte continue on the Inter-American Highway until Chacarita (gas station), take a right (south) and follow the signs to Rincón de Osa. In Rincón take a right (west) and follow the signs to Drake. It takes about 8 hours from SJ to Drake.
Our second recommended way to arrive to Drake Bay is to drive from San Jose to Sierpe, then take the boat from Sierpe to Drake Bay.
It takes about 5 hours driving from SJ to Sierpe. You can choose between the Inter-American Highway (by San Isidro de Perez Zeledón) or by the new Costanera Highway (along the coast by Quepos and Dominical) to get to Palmar Norte. In Palmar Norte, after crossing the Térraba River Bridge turn to the right, you will pass through banana and oil palm plantations arriving at the town of Sierpe where you can catch a boat (see boat info below).
Bus from San José to Sierpe (+ boat) -Near Plaza Viquez in San José, there are the buses of TRACOPA (Calle 5, Avenida 18-20) that travel daily towards the South zone. The following two schedules are available with Tracopa:
-Direct bus from San Jose to Sierpe at 8:30 am, arrives in time to take the boat at 3:30 pm to Drake.
-Bus 5:00 am (San Jose - Palmar Norte) - you must then take a taxi or bus to Sierpe.
If you want to take the 5:00am bus, we recommend to buy the ticket the previous day.
When you reach Palmar Norte, you can take a collective taxi for $6 per person to Sierpe, or a special private taxi for $20 per trip to Sierpe.
There are also buses from Palmar Norte to Sierpe, departing from 12:00 pm till 2:30 pm (25 minutes drive), these buses will arrive in time for you to take the boat at 3:30 pm .
There are also private shuttles between Sierpe and other destinations of Costa Rica.
Boat from Sierpe to Drake -
In Sierpe go to “Don Jorge” Restaurante “la Perla del Sur”, this is the place where boats to Drake departs, and they also have parking service for $6 a day.
Boat schedule:**Tell the boat captain that you are going to Hotel el Congo
-11:30 am $15 per person (we recommend contacting Elijio his boat name is "Nayely ”)
-3:30 pm $20 per person.
1) Must pay in cash directly to the captain .
2) You do not need a reservation, only inform the captain that you are coming to Hotel el Congo.
3) It’s recommended to arrive at least 20 minutes before departure of the boats in Sierpe .
4) When you reach Drake Bay, The captain will be calling to our office to let us know of your arrival, and we will send a car to pick you up and to bring you to our hotel.
5) When you arrive to Drake Bay you must disembark on a beach, so you will wet your feet, and possibly your pants as well. (Please remove your shoes or wear sandals).
6) If you visit during rainy season (June-December), bring a poncho or coat, plus plastic bags to protect your backpacks in the boat.

-7:15 am $ 15 per person.
-2:30 pm $ 20 per person.
