My family of 8 had a great time at Alice's place! She and her husband Herb could not have been better! Alice did a great job communicating with us and made some suggestions that we followed and were GLAD WE DID! The house is as stated before: older and very basic but was roomy enough for us 8 but the best part of the house is the porch - it has the best view and found ourselves sitting for coffee in the morning or eating dinner - again, best view and very relaxing! Alice was gracious to allow our group to use the kayaks and the extra bikes we needed. The river is extremely clean and was great for swimming and cooling off on those hot days - the dock that we shared was perfect for any river activity you may want to do! We will certainly be planning on coming back - was a great and unique vacation!

This is a classic River home. Nothing fancy, but just perfect for a summer stay. Alice was very communicative answering questions. The entire home was very clean with comfortable bedding and towels. Only issue was the fourth small bedroom is problematic with entry only from other bedrooms which can’t really be changed in this old home. The grounds are spacious and the dock excellent for all size boats.

Our stay began with being “lost at sea”, I was unable to reach Alice and from the angle we were coming from we could not see the red barn or house. Position yourself in front of the harbor hotel and go straight across. The house, although dated, was comfortable and roomy. We had nine, one teenager and two young children and had more than enough space. The porch is a treasure AND the view magnificent. Alice shared her kayaks and bikes which we enjoyed. Fishing and swimming right off the dock, clear, and extremely safe. A must is a mile and a half walk to the winery, we were shocked to find such a gem in the middle of the woods, they have games and toys for children and adults, as well as very good tasting wine, cheese boards, popcorn, and pizza night (sign up early). This seems to be the place to go on the island for happy hour, haha, there’s nothing else. Bring your suntan lotion and bug spray, everything else you’ll need is there. Town is quaint with upscale shops and excellent restaurants just five minutes from home with local docking in front of park. Enjoy the peace!

Beautiful house right on the shore of the St. Lawrence in a protected bay. Only accessible by boat so you'll need your own or a rental to get to and from. Property shares a large concrete dock and boathouse with others in the area. We had a big family week in the house and there was something for everyone: breezy porches, places to hike, a nearby vineyard, excellent fishing. One downside: the water right off shore is very deep and so it's not really suitable for children and non-confident swimmers to do recreational swimming/wading. But overall, our family had an excellent week getting away from it all on Grindstone Island! Would do it again!

1000 Islands is a lovely place to vacation. This home sits on Grindstone Island directly across from Clayton, NY. You arrive at the house by boat onto a very well constructed dock. The dock is shared with you, another rental property that Alice owns, and the owners' house which is just up the hill. The three houses are part of one property. There are not sufficient chairs for the dock, nor are there lounge chairs. You may want to bring your own chairs, which we did. Swimming off he dock is excellent. This is the greatest feature of the rental, the water is superb. The dock sits in a small bay, so you can swim a long way out without worrying about boats driving by. We swam during the day and under a full moon. Divine. The house is clean, the beds are comfortable, but the furniture and rugs etc are not new or glamourous. The property leads back to dirt roads around the island. Bring a bike and bike to the winery which is 1.5 miles away. The winery is very beautiful and a must visit. Alice and Herb are friendly and nice.
