The SEATHWAITE COTTAGE experience is not worth £200/day. The cottage, situated inside the farm, is surrounded by the burns and the smell of cattle permeates throughout the entire stay. We were left wondering if this is permitted by the Health Department of Tourism. Upon our arrival after a long drive from London, the house was freezing. The boiler had been programmed to operate for too short periods of time, only 10 minutes, which failed to raise the temperature to a livable 21 to 22 degrees. Additionally, the fireplace could not function properly, likely due to damp wood provided. Consequently, the bedrooms were freezing during the night, prompting both my 23-year-old son and my wife to wake up, get dressed, and seek refuge in bed. Showering became a torturous task due to the slow water flow, towels were provided for only 2 people, towels were provided for only 2 people, and the 2nd day a leak in the ground floor from the toilet room was leaking. Lovely cosy cottage, very rural and very quiet with lots of amazing views and walks right on the doorstep. Heating, hot water, fire, all you needed, perfect.
Beautiful, quiet, retreat! Surrounded via stunning scenery, plenty of walks to go on. The cottage was as described, clean and the perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring. Would recommend this cottage to anyone, really a stunning escape in the most beautiful scenery!
Absolutely stunning cottage in the middle of a quiet valley. Perfect for walkers and their dogs (like us!) - pub not too far away is nice to have and just all round amazing holiday.
The majestic Duddon Valley is an explorer's paradise and the best part there's no crowds (shhh)! Walking, biking, swimming, it's all here.
The drive through the Duddon Valley and over the Wrynose Pass is certainly not to be missed during your time in the area, it offers amazing views across the southern Lake District from one of the most spectacular mountain roads in the UK.
From Seathwaite visitors can visit the Memorial Bridge and stepping stones near the Newfield Inn. Seathwaite Tarn also is nearby, where fly fishing is available with a permit available from the inn. The village of Ulpha and its riverside setting is a favourite amongst locals and visitors during the warmer months. Over 300m of grassy riverside allow those who visit a chance to picnic, relax and wild swim in the various pools and shallows of the river.
The largest town in the area, Broughton-in-Furness dates back to the 11th Century and is situated to the south west of the Coniston Fells making it a great base to explore some of the quieter and most beautiful parts of the Lake District. Just a couple of miles from the village is the small hamlet of Broughton Mills and the highly acclaimed Blacksmith's Inn that offers great local food and beer.
