The Brick Barn-cosy but spacious barn conversion. Our family farm is a working arable, beef farm and is run by my husband Steve and our two sons Paul and Dan. The amenities we offer are full central heating, a fully equipped fitted kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer and washer dryer. The lounge has comfortable seating with TV/DVD and unlimited WiFi. ( Although please bear in mind you are in the middle of the countryside so maybe a little slower than you are used to). A highchair and cot is available on request, together with cot linen. The spacious bedroom has a king-size bed & a double sofa-bed in the same room, suitable for 2 adults & 2 small children, walk in wardrobe, together with an ensuite shower-room. Outside you will find ample off-road parking, together with seating and a barbecue available for your use on request. Sorry it is a no smoking property.
Jackie's place was quiet, clean and spacious.......more spacious than we initially imagined from the description. It is equipped to the highest standard with attention to detail and comfort. We were glad to be there over New Year, plenty choice of restaurants which she had recommended. Our stay coincided with a significant storm so we particularly valued the peace and quiet as well as visits to Exeter and Castle Drogo. Thanks Jackie for making your place comfortable and homely.
Friendly, very clean, cosy, great views & a perfect location for exploring Dartmoor! - A perfect stay, and would certainly recommend. Thank you!
5 stars,You should absolutely stay here! from the moment we booked Jackie was a fabulous host. When I requested a highchair and cot, she got back to me to confirm it was fine immediately and even asked what colour bedding we wanted for the cot. Our check-in time was really delayed, Jackie said it was fine and left the key in the door for us. When we arrived, the heating was on, the Christmas tree was twinkling, and their were mince pies and cookies on the side and milk in the fridge. During our stay we were able to explore the farm where we met Steve and Dan, both of who were really friendly taking the time to chat to us and making our sons day by letting him sit in the tractor 🚜 The brick barn itself is really lovely. It's immaculately clean with everything you could need as well as a brilliant shower. Jackie really has thought of everything to ensure you have the best time, and herself and her family are the best hosts we could have asked for. We will definitely be returning.
The farm is in the parish of Drewsteignton, nestling on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Across the valley you can see the famous National Trust property of Castle Drogo, the last castle to be built in Britain. From there enjoy a beautiful walk down into the valley following the pretty river Teign and visit the beauty spot of Fingle Bridge where you can enjoy a pint or a cream tea by a roaring fire at Fingle Bridge. Drewsteignton itself is a well known quintessential Devon village with thatched cottages, a pretty church at the head of the village square and a lovely traditional old pub, the Drew Arms. If you want something a bit more special there is also the Michelin starred restaurant, The Old Inn.
There is a well stocked Post office/Shop for everyday essentials and a few miles out of the village is Oinkers Farm shop and butchery, selling lots of local produce.
The neighbouring small market Town of Chagford is about 4 miles away hosting more fine eateries & Pubs. Close to Chagford is Gidleigh Park, which has 2 Michelin stars.
Throughout the beautiful Dartmoor National Park you will find many more pretty villages and if you venture up onto the moors you will be met with the dramatic open landscape of granite outcrops, heathers and the famous Dartmoor ponies grazing. We are close to the Two Moors Way walk for the more adventurous walkers or take a gentle stroll around the many reservoirs which are all nearby.
Although we are in a rural area, our road links are simple and easy. We are only 20 minutes from the M5 at Exeter and the junction off the A30 dual-carriageway is a few minutes from the farm. A day trip into Cornwall is just a short 25 minute drive.
The Brick Barn is central for many wedding venues and other special occasions.
Bring your bicycle and enjoy plenty of quiet roads and for a completely traffic free route, try the Granite Way of Dartmoor or enjoy Haldon Forest near Exeter.
