Bradbourne · 农家仓房 · 2室3床2.0卫 · 可住4人 · The Old Cattle Barn, Peak District - Valley View
A beautifully renovated stone barn, set in the grounds of a Grade 2* listed farm dating back to 1640. Meticulously transformed from the original cattle stalls into a modern, perfectly rustic two-bed, two-bath cottage in 2023, it retains the history and character of the original building. From this idyllic rural location on the Peak District National Park boundary, there are breathtaking valley views across Bradbourne Brook, and yet the barn is only a 10-minute drive into Ashbourne. To make the most of the high ceilings and beautiful beams, the living space is open plan with a reading nook next to a large picture window, a newly fitted kitchen/dining area leading to a covered patio, and a comfortable sitting room with a log burner for cooler evenings. The spacious, timber verandah, with reclaimed Staffordshire blue roof and outdoor kitchen, provides flexibility to eat outside and enjoy the surrounding views even in inclement weather. A gravel garden leads off the patio and is framed by a sweeping stone wall with built-in seating, nestled among forget-me-nots and lavender. From the garden, you can walk straight onto fields and small wooded areas, perfect for exploration or just to observe nature. The building was originally split into three distinct ‘bays’, typical of historic barns, so to retain this character one third has been converted into sleeping accommodation, with a twin bedroom downstairs (which can be set up as a king on request) and a double bedroom in the eaves above with a spectacular window within the roof truss, that looks into the living area below. The beds in both rooms are contemporary and comfortable, and the linen is 100% white cotton. We will set up the appropriate number of beds so please let us know when booking, how many people are in your group. Both bedrooms are en-suite. The ground floor bathroom has a compact bath with a shower attachment, perfect for children. On the first floor, the wet room features a rainfall shower installed quirkily between the roof trusses. Egyptian cotton towels are provided. Please be aware: The upstairs bedroom and en-suite have reduced headroom in certain areas. The downstairs bedroom houses the boiler so light sleepers may be aware of some low-level noise when the heating starts. Here are just a few of The Old Cattle Barn’s features and amenities: - Charnwood wood-burning stove (one basket of logs included - more available to purchase) - Wall-mounted TV with Freeview - Wifi is available but cannot be guaranteed - Alexa Dot - Books and family board games - Hair dryer in each bedroom - 100% cotton white bed linen - Choice of medium or firm pillows - Fluffy Egyptian cotton bath and hand towel for each guest - Bed rails, travel cot, fire guard, stair gate and high chair available on request - Miniml 100% vegan and cruelty-free hand soap and washing up liquid - Baylis & Harding 'Goodness' shower gel - Slimline dishwasher - Fridge with freezer compartment - Iron and countertop ironing board - Covered outdoor social area - Small Kamado countertop BBQ and generous free-standing gas BBQ - Gravel garden with access to a fire pit and tripod hanging grill (please let us know prior to arrival) - Access to fishing on Bradbourne Brook (Greyling & Brown Trout) Please note: There is no washing machine or microwave. We had a lovely stay at the Old Cattle Barn, Lauren was so helpful and friendly, she welcomed us at check-in, walked us through the barn and directed us to their guidebook for the house which included local area guides, maps, and how to use certain equipment. The Barn itself was gorgeous and very spacious. Lauren was always available for questions, advice and if we needed anything additional. The house was situated with beautiful views, was well designed and beautifully converted for purpose. We would happily return any time!
Beautiful place with everything you could need! Such a cosy atmosphere and great outdoor space for dining and enjoying the view. Lauren left us some lovely flowers and a hamper with fresh milk, orange juice, local ginger biscuits and more! Thank you for a great stay.
We had the most fantastic time at Lauren’s place and can’t wait to return. The barn is absolutely stunning- stylish but also lots of nods to its heritage as a barn including beautiful re-claimed brick and traditional doors. Lauren has style in abundance and we loved this home from home. The area is fantastic for walking and lots of the major trails and areas of the Peaks are easily accessible within a short drive. I would really recommend getting to Thor’s Cave, Padley Gorge and the Ilam Hall to Dovedale walk (the alternative route is challenging but the fields are unbelievably boggy at the moment- we had a lot of fun with toddler on shoulders!) Lauren was so warm and friendly and we felt really welcome. She even provided some little touches for our little one including fitting bed bumpers and providing a baby towel. The house is so well equipped for children and offers lots of opportunities for outdoor adventures. We are so happy to have found this place- an absolute gem! Thank you!
Situated in the southeast of Derbyshire's picturesque Peak District, between the ancient village of Bradbourne and the market town of Ashbourne.
Just a few minutes' ride from The Old Cattle Barn you are able to pick up National Cycle Route 547 which connects the Tissington and High Peak Trails and takes in Bradbourne and Carsington Water.
You can also easily reach public footpaths, across our fields, leading to Bradbourne and Tissington in one direction, and Kniveton in the other.
Tissington is a popular tourist destination with Tissington Hall offering tours, a tea room, a craft shop, a butcher, and a plant nursery.
The village of Kniveton is approximately 20-25 minutes by foot and there is an option to visit Wigber Low, a scheduled monument and Anglo-Saxon burial ground. In Kniveton, there are some good walking routes along quiet paths and a great village pub, The Red Lion.
PEDESTRIANS: Please be aware that the B5056 road adjacent to our property is not suitable for pedestrians as there is no public footpath available. We advise exercising caution and recommend using alternative routes for walking or jogging. Your safety is important to us, and we want to ensure your stay is enjoyable and secure.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Whilst you may want to arrive by car, consider taking advantage of Ashbourne Community Transport during your stay. Services run 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 7pm Saturday. The bus is fully accessible to carry wheelchairs, plus there is room for bikes.
CYCLING: We can recommend Cycle Hire Centres locally if you are unable to bring your own bicycle. The Derbyshire Dales has the best traffic free multi-user trails in the country, with miles of former railway lines offering quiet cycling and fabulous views. The Tissington Trail, Monsal Trail and High Peak Trail are all nearby.
