Lewi's Judy House, Brighton District is 30 mins drive from Negril. For those who like the unusual, away from mainstream tourism is a beautifully converted shipping container. The 'Ship' houses one specialty accommodation across the lane from the Caribbean Sea and is surrounded by 1/2 acre of tropical gardens, bushland, and amazing countryside views. Lewi's Backpacker Hostel is good for couples, friends, solo adventurers, families - people who just like to get away from it all and chill out. Set off 'the beaten tourist path', this Judy House is in Brighton, Westmoreland, Jamaica caters to travelers that prefer to be away from mainstream tourism and like to enjoy the local culture and Jamaica's unspoiled nature.

Everything was Fine!
I has an amazing time at Sue’s guest house. The lodging was great, in the middle of a lovely garden. Sue was a perfect hostess, very attentive to her guests needs. The community where the guest house is located is super safe, people are friendly and it’s the perfect opportunity to feel the authentic Jamaican lifestyle. A little out of the way though, so It requires some organization to get around. Beaches are not the most amazing, but it’s possible to have a dip in the shallow waters and refresh oneself. And they are pretty much all yours to be enjoyed! I highly recommend Sue’s lodging if you want to enjoy the real Jamaica away from the hustle and bustle of the more touristic destinations.
Sue is a well known and highly respected leader in the Brighton community and her knowledge and contacts always help. She takes time, creates opportunities for guests to meet each other and the result is always a nice, but ever changing little group of really interesting guests from all around the world. This time I stayed in one of the units that did not have its own kitchen but I liked it just as well. The kitchen is convenient, clean and checked frequently and just a few feet away. On this visit, I had a chance to appreciate Sue’s gardening skills and the grounds themselves have many interesting plants to check out for those who are so inclined.
Everything about this place is as promised with a few pleasant surprises! The host provides more than just accommodation, but creates a nice sense of community with and between guests if you’re so inclined, and that’s something very few owners have the skills and knowledge to do, and more importantly, Sue never makes it seem like it’s a burden, but rather that she still enjoys meeting people, despite many years in the business. There’s a little “shop” with all manner of little essentials like drinks, snacks, and even things to make a basic meal. For those like me who hate shopping, this is a Godsend. And it’s all based on the “honour” system, which sends such a nice message to guests, and the prices are as low or lower than what we tourists pay anywhere else! I loved the design of the converted seacan with its creative blending of indoor and outdoor space that I love. With that, I can say with confidence, I will go back again.
Susan and Judy House is amazing value and way more chill than staying in a resort. DYOR tho!

You’ll love Lewi's Judy House because of the outdoors space, the neighbourhood, the people, the light, and the ambiance. This Judy House is across the lane from the Caribbean Sea with unspoilt beaches and lots of pretty walks close by. The famous Brighton Blue Hole Mineral Spring is just around the corner. The neighbourhood is mostly made up of farmers, fishermen, tourism workers and their families. People are friendly and enjoy visitors being around the community. your presence helps the local economy a lot when you use shops, bars and use services like fishing trips or snorkelling. Locals love to show you around and it is good to tip those who spend their time showing you around. Backpackers and travellers from all over the world come and stay at Lewi's Backpacker's Hostel which is also on property. Unlike some other parts of Jamaica Brighton is harassment free. Bicycles are also available on property if booked in advance.
Transport - Is mostly by Bike taxis, but car taxis are available too. It is normal to travel to Negril Spot by Bike Taxi to get a route taxi to Negril or Mango Hall to get a route taxi to Savanah la Mar.
NOTE: bikes do not normally run after dark for pick ups from Negril Spot or Mango Hall unless you book a rider for a return time. Then he/she will be there to pick you up. There are numbers below or posted by the charging area for you to use. (Note please that bike taxi riders will charge extra for carrying big backpacks or luggage with you.)
Sea Access - down the side of Lascelle's Bar and across the road you can access the sea and enjoy the beautiful Brighton Sea Front pools, blow holes and a natural infinity pool!
Brighton Beach is 10 mins walk away and best early morning. Join me and Teddi my dog for a walk most mornings, but make sure you are up early with the sunrise to catch me!.
