We loved the wildlife, the proximity to Cave Creek Canyon and meeting Bill, who seems to be able to answer any question you might have about the area. The cottage was clean, well kept and comfortable. Good wifi (and therefore wifi phone service) was a bonus. The kitchen gets the job done. As others have said, get your groceries on the way unless you want only basics.

Bill’s place is awesome for accessing the Chiricahuas in the winter. Bill is a very cheery and welcoming host. The birds around the place were amazing and we got to see the javalinas both nights.

Perfect little cabin to ring in the new year. There's no cell signal once you get out there, but there's a large white sign on W Portal Rd: "4 Bar Cottages" - Follow it and you won't go wrong. Three of us (an adult couple and friend) stayed here on a last-minute decision. We had been planning to camp in the canyon, but it turned out to be quite a cold night. The cottage was perfect for our needs, warm, comfortable, quiet, cozy. The full stove was easy to use, and the small sink (creatively converted wet bar, it appeared) was just adequate for doing dishes. The refrigerator is hotel-sized and can get really cold! Don't turn it all the way up. Lots of very hot water, clean linens and large cotton towels, everything you need. Bill came and greeted us after we checked in. We hiked Cave Creek (South Fork to the Burro Trail up to the saddle). Gorgeous oasis with rare Arizona cypress, mature ponderosa, fir, cottonwoods, maples, and white pine. I would stay here again.

Quiet gem tucked away just minutes from Cave Creek hikes offering everything you need in a cabin. We appreciated the extra touches like books, music, and a helpful guide to the area all available in the cabin when we arrived. The javelina were an added bonus making the stay one we will not forget.
