We've stayed at Neil's place for multiple years. Perfect location for hiking and birding in the Portal area. He has bird feeders in the backyard. The home is very comfortable and had all the amenities that we needed. We hope to return in the future visits to the Portal area.

The house is very tastefully decorated and is very comfortable. There are two bathrooms with showers. The kitchen has lots of good pots and pans, utensils, plates and glasses. There is a large refrigerator freezer. The area is a small community of stargazers. The homes are spread out, not close together. The nightime sky is incredible in this area. We did not use any of the stargazing equipment but the owner has offered its use and left a lot of information about the telescopes. The house is located close to Portal and other good birdwatching locations. As birdwatchers we were able to attract birds to two feeders located in front of the house. We watched them from the front deck and on cold days from the living room. The house has central heating and AC. The area is very pleasant and quiet without traffic. I enjoyed walking in the early mornings. We visited early in April and I had to wear a puffy jacket for my walk but it warmed up. It was sunny and a bit windy most days.

This is the second time that we stayed here - truly outstanding. So peaceful and such a beautiful place!! We will certainly try to come back!!

This area of Arizona is very beautiful and rural. It is the sky islands - isolated mountain ranges surrounded by mesquite make for dramatic views. The house is in a dark sky village and is very quiet during bright moon phases. It was clean and well stocked with kitchen ware and linens, very comfortable. All local roads are gravel but in good condition. Cave Creek Canyon is just a few minutes away and has beautiful hike. If you drive the pass through the mountains it is very slow going.
