Rock Cottage is a traditional, two bedroom detached property overlooking, the charming White Peak village of Winster. With attractive, original features, including exposed beams and period fireplaces, the Cottage is an ideal venue for couples or a small family. To the side of the cottage, is a surprisingly secluded patio area, with a glass-doored cabin, that contains all you require for alfresco-style dining within the peace and tranquility of your surroundings. Tucked away at the end of this room is a dining area where you will also find a large selection of books, local guides and games for evenings and any periods of inclement weather. This is also a great place to spread out maps and make plans for the day ahead. Upstairs, the main double bedroom and the second, single bedroom both have stunning views over the local church across the surrounding countryside. We had a lovely stay in this quaint little cottage with our two dogs. Beautiful surroundings and views. Lots of lovely touches like postcard to write home and recommendations as well as milk & tea left in the place ready for us. Lovely view from the bedrooms too! Would definitely recommend.
Great cottage in a beautiful setting. Village is ideal base with shop and 2 pubs. House was a great place to relax in the evening and kitchen was well stocked. Communication with Denise was great. Thanks!
Very comfortable and well equipped cottage, in a beautiful location overlooking hills in the heart of walking country - the hosts made sure we had everything we needed - a very enjoyable stay.
What a find, considering we only booked with about 5 days to go after spontaneously deciding to spend a weekend in the Peak District and hoping there would be somewhere to stay! Denise and Cata’s Rock Cottage was exactly what we needed and a welcome refuge after a drive. Denise and Cata’s instructions were super clear, we found the cottage straight away, parked up the car on the described track and walked straight down to our stay. We really appreciate a key lock entry so we can feel as though we are letting ourselves into our own home for the duration of our stay and Rock Cottage offered just that. We felt as though we were the only people who had been there. Super comfy, cosy and filled with all the amenities you could need including small things such as a dishwasher and provided tablets so you don’t really have to think about washing up whilst you’re on holiday - it’s the little things! We only stayed for a weekend but could have stayed a week!
There are a number of shops, pubs and local attractions, all within walking distance, in the heart of Winster. These include the Eighteenth Century Market House, which was the first property to be acquired by the National Trust in Derbyshire.
For walkers, the Limestone Way runs alongside the Cottage and Stanton Moor, with the Nine Ladies Stone Circle, and Arbor Low, Derbyshire’s ‘Stonehenge’ are nearby; the Tissington and High Peak trails are ideal for cyclists and there are numerous venues for both bouldering and rock climbing.
Head towards Matlock, where you can take in stunning views from the top of Pic Tor War Memorial; hop aboard a Peak Rail steam train or a vintage tram at the National Tram Museum at Crich or marvel at the sights from an alpine-style cable car while ascending to the Heights of Abraham, where there are natural caves and a museum with fossils. Be sure to visit Bakewell, where you will find the historic Bakewell Bridge, the Old House Museum and of course, Bakewell Pudding!
Situated just a short drive from Chatsworth House and both Haddon and Hassop halls and a score of pretty market towns and villages, nestling in a picturesque, rural landscape, Rock Cottage is an ideal base from which to experience the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Peak District
IMPORTANT PARKING NOTICE: The cottage does not have its own parking although there is off road parking nearby (around 100 mts from the cottage).
There is a dirt track leading down to the cottage where you can leave your car for free and then walk down to the place. Or there is also a small free car park at the start of East Bank that is about 200 mts away from the cottage.
In either place, please note, you do so at your own risk and we cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage.
Please be aware that the dirt track can get very muddy during the winter months. And the track down to the cottage can be tricky when icy or wet.
