I enjoyed my two-day stay at Patty’s Motel. The bed is very comfortable, and I appreciated the extra pillows and the bedside tables. The overhead fan and sea breezes kept me cool, but I was happy to see a standing fan in the closet in case I needed it. The mini-fridge and microwave worked well. I didn’t have a mug with me so I didn’t use the coffee maker. The courtyard gave me a quiet, private place to sit in the evening. I took advantage of the excellent coffee at Ka Lae (behind Ace Hardware) and had a couple of very good meals at the Shaka Hut, since I was there on days when Patty’s restaurant was closed. (I have eaten their yummy food in the past, so I was a little disappointed!) I strongly recommend the farmers market on Wednesdays for food and gifts. Nā’ālehu is a sweet little town with a friendly public library and a good playground for kids. It’s an easy drive to Honu’apu beach park. For groceries, I went to the Malama Market in Ocean View. I am likely to return to Patty’s Motel when I am in Ka’ū.
