Malalati village stay is worthwhile for intrepid travellers. The conditions are very basic with a cold shower (but no shower head) and beds made from wood pallets. Mice are running around the cabin at night so don’t leave anything edible out. The locals are very friendly and often come by for a chat. The scenery is beautiful but the beach and village are in need of a clean up from all the plastic waste and cans. The meal package is a mixed blessing which should include more Fijian cuisine such as the delicious local fish and homegrown vegetables. We would recommend a minimum two-night stay with a good book. 😎

I had the best time at Malakati! Philip was very helpful and informative and made sure I could do the activities I wanted to. Wadi, Nai, Emily, and all the other ladies took me under their wing and I enjoyed kava with them for two nights. They were so lovely and so much fun- had lots of laughs with them. I had the chance to attend mass and the preschool, both were awesome experiences. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. I enjoyed a mix of eating alone in front of the ocean and eating with members from the village. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I think this is definitely the right place for you to visit if you’re easy going and don’t mind your schedule following Fiji time. The people are so friendly, but it helps if you’re the one to approach and ask questions/ask to join. The bure was great! It has basic amenities and was clean, but if you’re used to 5 star resorts it might not be for you. I loved my stay at Malakati and hope I can visit again!!

Malakati village homestay is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the local culture of one of Fiji’s smaller islands. It is beautiful and the people are warm and welcoming. I would recommend this stay for more adventurous travelers that don’t require many amenities or modern conveniences. I would not recommend for people with immune system issues or dietary requirements as the homestay environment isn’t able to accommodate dietary restrictions. That said, if you are healthy and able to eat a wide variety of foods and are looking for a great experience in a warm culture, reef access for snorkeling, and lovely people, this is a wonderful option.

Bula, Merveilleux séjour au village de Malakati. Une vraie expérience locale pour découvrir la culture fidjienne. Les repas sont vraiment bons et cuisinés par les familles du village. Tout le monde est très accueillant et ouvert aux échanges. Kava au top. Seule déception, la maison verte n'est plus très verte. Vinaka Max & Leo

Ce fut une très belle expérience ! Nous avons été conquis par l’emplacement de la bure, en bord de plage avec une vue magnifique. Mais encore plus, nous avons été touché de l’accueil chaleureux et authentique qui nous a été réservé. Nous repartons le coeur remplit de beaux souvenirs !
