Les villageois de Malakati sont de braves gens qui nous ont accueillis gentiment. Mais l'intégration à la vie du village qui était le but du séjour dans l'annonce, ne s'est pas déroulée correctement à cause d'un mariage qui avait lieu le lendemain de notre arrivée.En fait à part assister à la messe du Mariage et entendre les hommes pilonner le kava tard dans la nuit nous semblions les gêner. Le bungalow était mal entretenu et sale, toilettes inutilisables, excréments de rats sur la table au petit matin., chaises en plastiques tordues, plage couverte de déchets devant l'habitation etc.. en bref le bidonville.J'ai l'expérience d'autres homestay dans le Pacifique et je n'ai jamais vu ça.Le deuxième dîner a été catastrophique et c'est terminé en tourista, toute la nuit. Au matin nous avons réservé un autre hébergement et quitté le village alors que nous avions réservé pour 3 jours de plus.

What a fantastic cultural experience; I’d suggest it for anyone visiting the Yasawas who is willing to “rough it” and live as the locals do. The entire village is quite friendly! The conditions are quite primitive, so advise any guests to bring their own hammock, soap, water filter, etc. The shack is inhabited overnight by mice, so be sure to hang anything you don’t want them to chew. The compulsory food plan did not have vegan options, so you’ll probably need to bring your own food and negotiate that with the host.

We had a very relaxing few days staying at Malakati village. The beach here is especially beautiful and we had an enjoyable time swimming in the blue water, exploring the beach and tide pools, and just watching the days float by our beachfront cabin. If you want your trip to Fiji to be just about having an experience like the travel brochures and the luxury you see on TV, a village stay may not be for you. But if you're curious about what life is like for many Fijians, want to support a local village, and have a well rounded perspective on life in the remote Yasawas, absolutely consider a stay here! It's important to go into it with realistic expectations. Be prepared for a stay that's more similar to a backpacking trip in the wilderness than a hotel stay. We didn't bring a filter for water but wished we had. I have seen other reviewers recommend charcoal pills and that is another item we wished to have had - food preparation may not be up to western standards so be aware of this. The cabins don't have a lot of airflow so were very hot at night. Bringing a small portable battery fan is a must, trust me. Beyond that, arrive with an open mind to learn, an ability to go with the flow, and enjoy the adventure! The people we met were welcoming, and eager to answer our questions and accommodate any need we had. We had a memorable time and are glad we had the opportunity to experience Malakati village!

J’ai passé une semaine dans le village de Malakati, une semaine inoubliable! Ce que la hutte n’offre pas comme confort, le village l’offre en chaleur humaine et authenticité. Chaque famille profite de la manne touristique en préparant un repas pour les invités, j’ai mangé avec une famille différente 3 fois par jour pendant ma semaine, c’était vraiment incroyable! Je recommande fortement d’aller au village de Malakati au moins une semaine! I spent a week in the village of Malakati, an unforgettable week! What the hut does not offer as comfort, the village offers it in human warmth and authenticity. Each family takes advantage of the tourist windfall by preparing a meal for the guests, I ate with a different family 3 times a day during my week, it was really incredible! I highly recommend going to the village of Malakati at least a week!

We (family of four - two adults, one 3 year old, one 16 month old) stayed at the YELLOW HOUSE as well as at a brand new homestay house next door for five nights/six days. The village homestay is operated by a large committee, and each family in the committee takes a turn providing the meals for guests, so we saw several different styles of cooking, but all meals were plentiful. For early risers: Breakfast was ready about an hour after the village children left on boats for their school. The village is spectacularly beautiful, and the beach is breath-taking ... and empty of crowds, that's certain. The people of Malakati welcomed us, and our children had *the best time* playing with other the other kids, grown-ups, a few dogs that always came around to check on us, the chickens, etc.; our son even attended the village kindergarten to be with his friends one day. We played on the beach, swam in the calm waters, and generally had a whale of a good time. Recommended for relaxation!!!
