What a wonderful adventure! We fished, crabbed, swam, got up close and personal with wildlife (an otter! The bird sanctuary at the end of the pond! Bald eagles! Blue heron! A pond snake!) , and had an immensely fun time on the water (and in the hot tub)!

Paddlers Place was a great end of the summer vacation. We were able to do something new every day. Mary and Shelly were very responsive when we reached out to them.

We had an amazing week at Mary and Shelly’s place. We took the advice of reviewers and called sharon for pontoon boat to shark tooth island and fished (under a tree with two bald eagles), kayaked Betty’s pond, rode bikes to the beach every day, got oysters, fish and scallops at Montross crabs, hiked to fossil beach, and checked out Stratford Hall. We also enjoyed just relaxing at the house and watching birds on water (more bald eagles!). So many of these moments were made possible by Mary and Shelly as hosts - their house was just fully outfitted with everything we could possibly need, rain or shine! We will definitely be back and will recommend to others. One note: there were jelly fish at all the beaches during our stay. They weren’t bad and I understand limited to specific times when water is especially warm but just flagging since I didn’t realize when my son and I first went swimming and started to feel the stings. Warmer weather also brings dolphins in view from local beach!

We had an absolute blast staying at Mary & Shelly’s place. This was our first time in Montross, VA and we couldn’t have asked for better hosts. The place was so peaceful and the inside was roomy. We didn’t really spend much time inside since we were sightseeing and fishing but it was spacious and clean. The house had everything you could need. We spent most of our time sightseeing, fishing off the dock, and dining out. We did a ton of fishing off the dock and caught redfish, croakers, and perch. We loved watching the bald eagles, osprey and herons fly by throughout the day. On our last day, a beaver swam right by the dock while we were fishing. We didn’t adventure on the kayaks but we plan to do that the next time. Mary and Shelly’s recommendations were great. We were able to take a pontoon boat to shark tooth island and find shark teeth, fish, and see the sunset. We stopped at Westmoreland State Park to check out Fossil Island and we also went to Stratford Hall Historic Preserve
